Swim
Comments: I had water in my left goggle and got kicked around a lot, but that's to be expected. What would you do differently?: not much. it was a good swim. with good drafting on the 2nd half of the swim. Transition 1
Comments: felt like cattle being herded to the grinder. Awsome experience. Transitions felt like chaos to me. What would you do differently?: take an additional moment to make sure to get proper nutrition Bike
Comments: first half flew by. felt like i was getting passed a lot on the bike. felt good until mile 75. a mixture of strong headwinds, heat exhaustion, and possibly using too much energy after the turn around led to heat exhaustion and an inner thigh cramp around mile 100. Slowed way down the last 20 miles. Needed to still conserve until mile 85. I also had a huge headache and suffered from the heat. What would you do differently?: Wait until mile 85-100 before even attempting to add speed. I would definately not wear an aero helmet next year. drink more gatorade and take salt tabs. Transition 2
Comments: tried to rehydrate. felt bad. inner thighs were cramping. tried to stretch out, eat some food, and drink. left not feeling any better, but was optimistic that i would feel better after the first couple of miles What would you do differently?: I would have laid down w/legs elevated for possibly 10 min to let blood flow back to my head and really rehydrate. Run
Comments: had a large bruise/blister on my left foot. felt like i was running on a golf ball on the outer part of my left foot. very painful and could hardly run. Suffered from major heat exhaustion and not able to come back. could not eat/drink. threw up at mile 11 and 12. had to walk miles 3-13 and sat down at aid station at mile 7 and tried to eat/drink. felt horribly dizzy, would be hot then cold, could not hear/talk straight. never felt good. What would you do differently?: I believe this started before the run so I would only say change my nutrition/race execution prior to the run. easier on the bike, supplement w/salt tabs, and Post race
Warm down: medical tent 30 min, massage tent 10 min, food booth 10 min, walked for aprox 12 min What limited your ability to perform faster: heat, nutrition, not knowing what to expect at an ironman Event comments: Doing the ford ironman world championship is one of the coolest expierences i have ever done. awsome support. challenging/beautiful course and out of this world experience. a must do once in your life.
