Bike
Comments: Started raining briefly on way back up in Sorrento but didn't last long. Some gusty wind on the way down slowed things slightly. Hit a good 20km stride with a pack going 28km/hour around Rosebud. Oliver's Hill wasn't a problem. Starting up again after lunch was hard; took a good 20km before I was back into it. Built up a lot of lactic acid in the legs which took an hour to work out. Slowed pace from 30km/hour to 27km/hour and was ok for the rest of the ride. What would you do differently?: Didn't get any training in for the 4 weeks prior to the event, so I started and ended in Mordialloc, doing 140 of the 210 distance, which was about right. With a few 50 and 100's prior, I should easily do the full 210 next year. Post race
Warm down: Hot jacuzzi for 30 minutes, walking around helped. What limited your ability to perform faster: Muscle strength was lacking, noticeable on any hills on the back 100km. Need to do more 50 and 100km distances as well as build up leg muscles. Event comments: Lunches provided in Sorrento were excellent, but the queue for coffee was 20 minutes! Also toilets there were subpar. Good weather overall, and overall event was well done. Last updated: 2008-10-19 12:00 AM
