Run
Comments: Once again the Marathon training paid off in the form of a personal best. I made sure to start up front to avoid the race traffic (in previous years I spent so much time weaving around people) which helped a lot. I hit the first mile around 6:50, which was a little fast, but I was sure I could hold on. It was really fun being up front with some faster folks. Hearing nothing but the footsteps and breathing of hundreds of people around you was pretty cool. Usually in the middle of the pack there's a lot more chatter, but up towards the front it was really serene. I felt great up until Mile 4 or so, but by that point I knew I had a personal best in the bag. I hit the turn for Mile 6 around 43 minutes and I knew I had a shot at beating 45. I started to pick it up and I even sprinted a bit at the end. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was healthy, hydrated, free of gastrointestinal issues, warm but not hot, and out of the main pack. After Run Like Hell I knew I could bust out a great time, but beating my old 10K personal best by almost six minutes was unbelievable. Post race
Warm down: I walked over to the goodies and grabbed some water, then waited for everyone else to finish the race. We had to spend a few minutes helping my friends who had locked their keys in the car, but a nice police officer helped and we got on our way. I think everyone had a good time. What limited your ability to perform faster: I guess I haven't put in a lot of miles since the marathon in September, but I can't argue with the results. Event comments: My 5th year doing this race and it is always well organized and fun. What a great way to spend Thanksgiving morning! I'll be back next year for the 100th anniversary! My wife and I got on the road about 7:30 after picking up some bagels and a banana. I also picked up some lighter gloves.
We jogged from the parking lot to the Pro Shop at Paul Brown Stadium where we met up with a couple of our friends. I told my wife and my buddies to have a good race, then I jogged up towards the front.
