Pre-race routine:

Had difficulty sleeping the night before the race. I woke up at 4:30 am. Had a banana, two power bars and gatorade.
Event warmup:

Walked to transition from hotel, and then to swim start. Did some light stretching.
Swim
  • 21m 25s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like this was the best swim I have had yet in a race. The current gave me a boost. I held on to the rope a few extra seconds to let the pack get ahead of me, and I caught up with relative ease. This was the first swim I have done where I stayed in freestyle during the entire swim. I got up on the dock with no problems.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Surprisingly, the swim was my best event.
Transition 1
  • 12m 38s
Comments:

I lost a lot of time in transition, which is becoming a theme of my Tris this year. I use the time to catch my breath from the swim, and don't hustle enough. In this race, I also forgot my sunglasses and bike gloves, and went back to get them.
What would you do differently?:

Hustle more.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 14s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.82 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I was slighly faster than my normal 25 mile weekend ride pace, but I was disappointed in the bike. I can't point to anything specific, but I just felt slow.
What would you do differently?:

Work out more with my trainer during the week. Simply riding on weekends is not enough.
Transition 2
  • 06m 44s
Comments:

Transition was a little slow.
Run
  • 1h 02m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was a forced march. I was struggling to keep up a 10 min mile pace. I stopped at every water stop to get water.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I really have to train more during the week. Relying solely on my weekend workouts is not going to advance me to the next level.

Event comments:

This was my first oly, and my fourth race overall. I had a great time, and enjoyed the race. The volunteers and the crowd were great. Despite my disappointment in my time, I am very proud to have finished. Even though it was crowded, I would do this race again.
