Run
Comments: started off too fast bc I usually try and run declining splits throughout the race. However, when the first mile was 6:57, I knew that was not going to happen. I decided to try and hold 7:15 - 7:20 and then pick it up towards the end. Nutrition wise: stopped at almost all water stations and had either a gatorade or water. Ate 10 shotblocks during the race- almost one per mile. Very happy that 3 miles were below 7:00 and 5 were below 7:10 Disappointed I did not follow initial race strategy but happy with result and ability to adjust strategy during the race and not panic A new pr by almost 5 minutes. Run has improved a lot over the past 2 years What would you do differently?: run declines. start off a little slower. Post race
Warm down: stretch for about 5 minutes. find friends. Waited for over an hour to find Chrisitne. Worried her knee started to really bother her. When we met up, thrilled that she set a new PR by over 30 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: going out to fast. Although, I am not sure how much faster I would have been Event comments: Perfect weather to run in, 30 degrees and no wind. There was a group of 5 that completed the half and all set prs. One did the full marathon and did better than he was expecting. Great weekend for all of us! This is my third year going to VA Beach for the marathon or half marathon and plan on continuing the tradition. It is a great course and fun way to begin each season. got up about 2 hours prior to race and showered. Ate a cliff bar with some gatorade. Stretched in the hotel for a little while and then had half of a bagel with peanut butter and some more gatorade. Began walking towards the race about 30 minutes prior to start
stretching in the room. Bad habit of not warming up well for most of my races. Need to improve on this.
