Run
Comments: Wow, what can I say, the fans, the runners, the bands, the cloggers ! What a great day of fun. Lots of memories I hope I never forget. I had a plan and stuck to it. Under 1 hr 1st 5 miles(53:42) under 2 hrs next 5 miles (1:50:39) & fight to stay under 2:30. 10:55 congested a bit at the start 10:21 10:44 10:36 11:10 11:10 11:38 too much sightseeing at the bricks ? 10:59 11:10 11:52 mental lapse ? felt fine 11:14 12:39 no legs from here to finish, unsure whether to push or play it safe 13:15 (1.1)rest on mile 12 helped, exhausted but felt good last 1/2 mile I was glued to the white line on right side of road last .75 miles. It really kept me from wandering and to focus on the finish line. Last 1/2 mile saved me about 2 ' as I finished well. What would you do differently?: train more, train more, train more ...... Post race
Warm down: I ate a banana, 3 cookies and drank lots of water, I tried to stretch but was very difficult as tight as I was getting. Walked some & chilled out before walking the mile or so back to the car. Drove home, tought to get out of car at rest area because of tight legs & back. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and lack of confidence to push last 2 miles with heavy legs but probably a smart choice as might have cramped up & not finished. Event comments: Volunteers were excellent & the entertainment from the bands, cloggers, cheerleaders added to a great atmosphere. This is a must do race. Something I forgot to mention, Race Day Magic. There is something special about running with 30 to 40 thousand people. The adrenaline keeps you going. It happens in small races as well, I pushed without maximum effort to accomplish more than I thought possible. The RDM is real, I will not plan for it or count on it but I know it is a factor. I paced with a young couple the 1st 5 miles and later found other silent partners to get me through the day. RDM is certainly mental but the results are physical. RDM was only partially beneficial when the legs were heavy. Last updated: 2008-11-07 12:00 AM

Drove to Indy on Friday & met with the T3 Team at La Quinta. Finally ordered some lasagna & ate about 8:30. We got up at 4:15 local or 3:15 home time. I did manage to get about 5 hrs sleep. Group met at the motel lobby for breakfast at 5 am. I had coffee, blueberry doughnut, banana, & 1/2 small cream cheese danish. We left motel at 5:45 for downtown & arrived about 6. I drank a small water on the drive & finished before we left the cars. Walked about a mile to my corral(Q). Hit the potty several times while waiting and started drinking my medium gatorade 1 hr before race. I drank about 1/2 the gatorade & threw out the rest at 30' b4 race start. Made small talk with several nice people in corral till the start.
Not much, stretched a bunch while waiting. Chatted with others to keep nerves in check.
