Swim
Transition 1
Comments: Was easy to run in and run out to get the bike, had a pretty easy spot to get to, was the first left after the pros going into the transistion and the second last row, had no problem getting in and out, but had a little issue trying to get my feet clipped when i got on. What would you do differently?: Get my feet clipped quicker Bike
Comments: Even though i have never raced this distance before this was the fastest i have ever gone in training rides. Sustained a good pace through most of it, was really trying to average 20 or better the whole time based on the bike computer. Overall I was very pleased with my bike time, was looking at 1:20 before the race so this was a great improvement. What would you do differently?: Just need to keep training on the bike to get better. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of the shoes for the first time during the ride, coasted into the dismount and got off no problem. Ran into transistion racked and changed out of my bike shoes into my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Probably could have done the shoe change a little quicker Run
Comments: Came out feeling pretty good, although the gels were starting to get to me so decided I would only take one more at mile 2. Drank mostly water at the stops, but ended up skipping all after mile 4 because my stomach was telling me enough. Started out great, think my first mile was around 7:30 started to slow up a little around mile 3 then a guy came by and said relax your shoulders - I have a tendency to tighten them up when running - so i did and concentrated on keeping relaxed which really helped. About mile 4 was getting really hot but just told myself 2 more miles to go, goal was to get sub 50 so was checking the Garmin to see where I was at, at the last 1/2 mile knew it would be close so took off sprinting and just made it. Was so focused didn't hear or see Jeff and Bridget cheering for me as I came through. What would you do differently?: Not much, run was right where I had expected, could have done maybe a minute or so faster but not much more. Post race
Warm down: Came through got the wet towel, drank 2 waters and grabbed a gatorade and walked through. Saw Gary and his wife Courtney and sat down for awhile with them, then waited for my friend Matt to finish. After that had a few beers, saw Brian and Jeff again in the food line, then headed over to transition to get my stuff and head home, was tired! Event comments: While I really wanted to complete my first Olympic and do the swim I understand why they had to call it. Just took a little bit of the excitement out of it at the beginning, but once I was on the bike, felt good to race again. Will do this race again. My final comment is the waves, really believe it is not fair to the ladies to have to go last every year in the heat, they should at least go my age groups alternating men and women, maybe change it up a little every year. Plus not only is it not fair to the ladies but it definitely deprives me of any nice pace booty inspiration! Last updated: 2008-11-12 12:00 AM

Was staying out at St Pete Beach so only had about a 20 minute drive, had gotten everything together the night before, woke up at 4 got dressed, ate a energy bar and brought my gatorade along. Got to the transition, set everything up, saw Gary (Gremlin) then realized I had forgotten my inhaler in the jeep (not that I would need it but won't race without it). So had plenty of time walked back to the jeep at the Baywalk garage saw it on the seat, grabbed it and starting heading back. Along the way someone asked if I heard that the swim had been cancelled. Really had mixed emotions about it - while I hate and dread the swim i had trained hard for it the past 3 months and this was going to be my first olympic distance so really rather have done it. The waves really didn't bother me, knew I would finish just may take longer than I had planned, some of the open water swims I did with Bill were pretty choppy so had gotten that experience in.
Watched the pro's go off and then come back in and finally headed over to were they were trying to lin everyone up, saw Adam, Jeff, Brian and my friend Matt at this point, got in line , had everything on, shoes, helmet, sunglasses and was ready to go.
