Run
Comments: My typical 5k strategy has always been negative splits- trying to reserve something in the tank for the last mile. This time, I tried to go out harder than usual after the gun and hold a steady pace throughout. My first mile (6:30) was probably too fast, as I slowed significantly after the turnaround halfway through. The last mile was a painful slog. What would you do differently?: Train for a 5k. Post race
Warm down: Light stretching, water, oranges and bananas. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training for a marathon- this was not my goal race distance. Also, should have gone out a little easier at the beginning. Event comments: Poorly organized race- started 25 minutes late, issues with traffic, etc. However, it was a beautiful morning, there was fog on the lake and the temperature was perfect. Plus, it was my fastest 5k to date and the first time I've placed in the top 3 in my age group in any event. Sweet! Last updated: 2008-11-16 12:00 AM

Got to Balboa Lake 40 minutes early. Picked up race packet. 1 mile warmup. Had a shot block and some water.
Easy 1-mile warmup run, light stretching.
