Swim
Comments: It felt like an ok swim although my time was not great. My sighting was perfect, I drafted some but not as much as should have. My stroke seemed strong, I could not pick up the pace though, I definately lacked speed. Out of the water I felt slugish running, so I just walked. What would you do differently?: Work more on pacing and speed intervals, I had no throttle at all for this race. Transition 1
Comments: Just wanted to be focused getting onto the bike, took it slow. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions a little! Bike
Comments: Felt great comming out of the swim, adapted to the course right away. Up until mile 28 I felt good & nutrition was good. Then my back started to tighten and my hips siezed up. I was getting passed on a consistant basis, I just tried to maintain a steady cadence and recover on the downhills. The only time I would pass others was on the downhills, and there were plenty. I felt I prepared well for the hills because they did not seem as difficult as hills were for me last year. Nasty grade was not easy but I enjoyed the challenge. The down hill after this was awesome, I reached 45+. My back and hips were killing me at this point and it seemed every 5 minutes I needed to get up and move around to attempt to stretch, it didnt help! What would you do differently?: More tempo rides, way more interval training, I need to be as strong at mile 50 as I was at mile 5. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Go faster. Run
Comments: There was no run in me at all, it felt like a car hit me on both sides of my hips. I tried everything, jogging, walking, stretching, nothing helped! So I just plodded along, I had dropped so far back that I was among the walkers, and I did this for the entire time, up and down every hill! What would you do differently?: I was hurt, that never went away since my last race,ITB,Piriformis, muscle imbalance, or all of the above. I wish I knew what it was. I probably had no business doing this race, but, I paid, the weather was epic,my friends were there, and despite my all time record slowest time,I had fun! Now its time to take the time to heal! Post race
Warm down: Went straight to the first aid tent and got ice, lots of it! What limited your ability to perform faster: Injuries, they affected my bike and run! Event comments: I loved this race, even though I was not in the condition I had planned! Next year I doubt I will do this again, I will probably do Oceanside only and not both like I just did, it was way too much for me! Last updated: 2008-11-18 12:00 AM

I drove up from Atascadero, its only 30 min from Jolon road at the freeway. I stayed in a hotel again this year, it was a good call as there was a great chance of rain this year.
Moved around at pier area just before swim, came back in and saw Donato and Bryan at the start, too funny, helped calm my nerves, wished them luck!I drafted off Donato for a while, he had other plans, like going faster!
