Overall Rank = 108/215

Age Group Rank = 12/20
Pre-race routine:

2nd triathlon, still had some nerves, not enough experience to have a good routine yet. Ate a solid breakfast, probably had too much to eat, my stomach had not cleared prior to race start. The wave chop from wind was sobering, I had not swam in those conditions before.
Event warmup:

Swam for several minutes to get comfortable in the water.
Swim
  • 30m 29s
  • 1750 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good start, stayed out of mid pack, took outside line on way out. The way back there was exceptional glare from the sun. I had light enhancing goggles on - mistake, once we cleared the underwater sight line I struggled to find my way correctly to shore.
What would you do differently?:

Correct goggles for light conditions.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

I was slow, over thinking what to do in what order. Still need more reps with this transition stuff. Somehow I wasted 2 minutes above average in T1
What would you do differently?:

Tri specific bike shoe upgrade, practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 40s
  • 24 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

New tri bike, I felt fast. Did have a hydration problem sure to catch up with me on the run. Seemed like I still had food in my stomach from breakfast hours earlier. Could not get water in. I was having fun and was over amped - raced like the triathlon was over after the bike leg, basically set myself up for a weak run (still learning).
What would you do differently?:

Fix pre-race diet. Control pace better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Better transition
What would you do differently?:

Speed laces for running shoes.
Run
  • 57m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I was weak from the start, had no reserve, used it on the bike. Felt hot last couple miles.
What would you do differently?:

Overall run result determined by effort expended on bike and hydration issues.
Post race
Warm down:

Re-hydrate, stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience, diet, hydration missteps.

Event comments:

Great venue, seemed well organized.
