Pre-race routine:

I arrived before the transition area opened. This was my first event ever and I wanted to make sure that I had everything ready. I learned a little about pre-race nutrition but I felt pretty good about my overall preparation for this particular event. I wish I had gotten my bike sooner, but I will suffer through this event and dial it in for PumpkinMan.
  • 15m 51s
  • 700 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters

Swim is my strongest event but I would like to continue improving my time. It comes more naturally to me than running or cycling.
What would you do differently?:

I would still like to get more pool time and get in the open water at least three times prior to an event. My pool times are closer to 10-12min for 700-750 meters at a relatively relaxed pace.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s

I did not use a wet suit so there was no issue there. I am still in cages on my bike and was a little clumsy on the mounting. I felt that everything else in the trasisition area was pretty good considering.
What would you do differently?:

I hope to change over to clips for next year. Money was little tight this year. I have the pedals, I just need to get some shoes. I know I will improve my times as I get more familiar with a routine in the T's and it will be a race by race basis of what is needed in each area (out and back vs. point to point).
  • 43m 47s
  • 11.18 miles
  • 15.32 mile/hr

I hadn't had a chance to get my bike "tuned" so I was having a lot of shifting issues. I am still learning gears and what to use when and a decent rythym to it.
What would you do differently?:

I need more bike time. I need to ride, ride, ride and get to know my bike. I don't think it will be impossible but I need to get on the course at least twice before the event.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s

It was very easy because I was in my running shoes (cages on the bike).
What would you do differently?:

More training of bike and run in the same day.
  • 29m 28s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile

I need to run more and further to prepare for the 5K.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to run more, and build my endurance back to what it needs to be.

Event comments:

This was my first event and I was very excited. Everyone was so supportive of us newbies and I felt like I fit right in. there was a lot of encouragement going around to everyone there and I will continue to make this event a must in my scheduling. I hope to move up to the Olypic course either in 2009 or 2010 for sure.
