Swim
Comments: Took it nice and easy, and it was the most calming and relaxing race swim I've ever had. Got surprised a few times with how quickly the buoys came up. Goggles kicked off once, not too bad in the washing machine. Six minutes faster than last year. What would you do differently?: Swim more than twice in the last seven months! ;-) Transition 1
Comments: Took my time. Dizzy as usual coming out of the water. Bike
Comments: Pretty good, considering I've biked about 16 miles in the last six weeks. Got passed by a lot of nice bikes, and some crappy ones with decent motors. Satisfied, all things considered. Again, six minutes faster than last year. What would you do differently?: Forgot to tweak my derailleur, which gave me problems. Some gears were OK, but others were off, making a bit of noise and popping up or down a cog. My fault as I knew it was off but didn't take the time to go over the bike beforehand. Oh, and ride some more. Transition 2
Comments: So fast for me that I sat there staring at my stuff wondering what I forgot. Turns out it was nothing. Run
Comments: Bad side stitch/cramping for the first two miles. I could take nothing but very shallow breaths for most of the run, which REALLY slowed me down. Legs felt great, just couldn't take in enough 02 to make a go of it. Pretty much the same run time as last year. Boo! What would you do differently?: Not take in so much liquid on the last mile or two of the bike. I forgot/ignored the fact that my body doesn't like to process much in my stomach when the HR goes over 165 or so. Very slow, so it just sits in there. This caused the stitch/cramping that did in my run. Post race
Warm down: Chatted. Ate a hearty breakfast of eggs, snausage, and a bagel. What limited your ability to perform faster: The almost complete lack of training in the last six weeks. All for a good cause, but I could have dominated this race. Oh, and being up for 25 hours prior to the gun going off. Event comments: Even with my empty training logs lately, I killed last year's time by 13 minutes! That is F$%#ed up. I love this race and will come back for #3 next year. Top 5 finish (AG of course!) Worked the overnight shift and went straight there from work, as my boss came in early at 5am. Cup of coffee and drank some Perpetuem for breakfast (or was it dinner?).
Biked the mile to transition and exercised my jawbone with Bobby. Then biked back to my car to retreive the sunglasses I forgot.
