Swim
Comments: The swim was tough for me. I really had just started swimming again last November after not swiming for about 35 years. To put it in perspective last November I couldn't swim over 25 yards without a rest. I did the 2 day TI class and found a great swim coach that really helped me make it though the swim. I was able to go non-stop, but slow and steady for this first race. Tried to stay relax and not worry about what others where doing. I just need to keep working on it and build the endurance. What would you do differently?: Not much different. I just need to keep drilling, practicing and lessons going. Transition 1
Comments: I was really slow. Tired from the swim and was going as fast as I could to take off the wetsuit. My wife said it looked like I was working in slow motion. What would you do differently?: I think once my swimming gets better, I will be in better shape to move faster in this transition. Bike
Comments: I got on the bike and just tried to keep my HR on and a good comfortable average which worked well. Only problem was my feet were completly numb from cold. I did the zen thing and tried to put it out of my mind, which worked. Was able to recover pretty well from the swim on the bike. What would you do differently?: Build speed as I get better at this. Transition 2
Comments: This transition went much better for me then the swim to bike transition. Got my bike racked, helmet off, running shoes off and took off out of the transition area. Got about 1/4 mile out and remembered that I forgot my race number belt and ran back into the transition area to get it. Got some pretty funny looks at that... What would you do differently?: Remember the race number belt. Run
Comments: My feet were still completly numb. In fact I didn't know I had toes until the 2nd mile. Other then that the run felt really good for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Event comments: For me this was a perfect first race. Everybody was friendly and helpful. The swim portion was in very calm water and the bike and run flat. I am really glad I picked this one and will be back next year. Thanks to all who help put this one on! Last updated: 2008-11-26 12:00 AM

This was my first Tri and I came down from SF the day before to do it. I picked this race as it was about 12 weeks into my training, and it sounded good because it had calm water and the bike and run course was flat. Got up early the next day and got a fairly good spot in the transition area. Tried to watch what others were doing as to how to set up my sace. Everybody and the volunteers where all helpful and friendly.
I had done a couple of open water swims with a swim coach in San Francisco bay to get ready for this. I was realy worried about the cold water as the SF bay swims really sapped my energy at 51 degrees. I got in the water about 10 minutes before my wave (the last wave of the day) and it felt much warmer compared to the bay area.
