Overall Rank = 15/50
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/8
Pre-race routine:

Nothing out of the ordinary. Got up at 5am, eat a multi-grain bagel with PB. 1 cup of OJ and started sipping water. Right before the swim I took a PowerBar gel.
Event warmup:

Lite jog and a lite swim
Swim
  • 22m 16s
  • 1700 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think I got top 10% but I don't feel like doing the math.

I only had 6 hours of swim training that year before the event. I felt ok for that level of training but I was getting to my limit. I was expecting .65 distance. It was the first time I ever raced without a wetsuit. I did better than I thought I would without one.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Much faster than last year. It helped that I didn't have a wetsuit on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 19m
  • 10 miles
  • 7.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike section makes or brakes you even more than a road triathlon. The steep up hills make most riders get off and push.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on z4 and 5 hill rides.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Better than last year
Run
  • 27m 42s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

What can you say, I was tired as hell. Train more in the winter and spring.
Post race
Warm down:

Not Much

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training much from October through April.

Event comments:

Although there wasn't a lot of people, it was my first podium finish. For only training for a couple of months, I feel I did great.

Suit: no wetsuit
Course: The swim course looked really long and everyone was complaining. It went way out left to one buoy then a long swim to the second buoy on the right and back to the beach. After the swim, xterra went out and measured the swim with a GPS and said that it was setup just a bit over a mile. They apologized and said that they would officially change it on the results. Instead they just didn't mention it.
