Pre-race routine:

Celebrate New Years eve with to much to eat. Kept the drink respectable. To bed at 1:00 up at 7:30. Thank god for late starts. Took my 3 R-stops. Kept checking the website to to see if anyone came to their senses and canceled this frostbite producing slog through the snow. Ken was picked me up 8:30 sharp. The unwritten man rules says never be the first to come to your senses and go back to bed, We all would have done it in a instance, macho bastards. So off we go following a SNOWPLOW. The truck thermometer actually dropped when the sun came up. Get there with and about an hour to spare. Tag and chip and back into truck. No sign of Mike. Met Kam walking to start. Meet Mike running the other way to get tag and chip with 10 minute to start. Stood in the very back of the pack to meet Mike running back to start. He makes it.
Event warmup:

Sat in truck with the motor running.

Comments:

Ken, Kam, Mike and I started in that back together. Easy pace and soon remember hard hard it is to run on snow. Needed to pick our way through a bit of the pack. 1/4 mile out we all fought for a little 12 inch lane of wet pavements. Hard to get a the push off on the snow. Mike and I kept a good pace for the conditions but fast enough to stay warm. When we were in the sun or on a sunny hill the weather wasn't half bad. In the shadows it was cold and at one spot we had a bit of headwind that I had to my gloves back on.
Finished well through the slush. Ken ran us in he had a good race. I was glad to be down and we headed back to meet Kam coming in. She was right behind us a little bit, looking good.
What would you do differently?:

Wait for a warm day.

Post race
Warm down:

Headed to lodge to have chili and coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Snow and cold.

Event comments:

Glad Kam came out. These are training races for Mike and me this was good one given the conditions. Took some mental toughness to run in that stuff and cold. Congrates to all that finished. Mike 2 down. Next red line!
