Pre-race routine:

Willie was awake about every hour last night so the sleep wasn't great. Up at 7:30 2 slices WW toast with PB&J. R-stop. Coffee. Gotta remember to put the water in the makers. Could not find my usual gloves, still don't know. Borrowed Y's. Worked well. Ken there at the crack of 8:30. Drive 30 minutes to Powder Mill park. Truck temp 11 degrees. Get tag and chip. Pee. Sit in truck staying warm. Head over to start 1/4 mile away. Pee on the way. Meet up with Mike.
Event warmup:

Short jog going back to find my finger timer that fell off in the restroom. Luckily not under the urinal. Stretch a little.

Comments:

Ken, Mike and I started close to the back. As Ken says you get to pass more people. I was thinking this morning I'll be happy to finish this thing in one day. We start. Not to crowed in the back of the pack. We start out together but soon run into cars on the same side of the road we are running waiting for us to clear the road. Left/right which way to go. I pull my too fast pace right off the bat. Did try to slow it down some. Hear Mike say I thought he was behind us as he catches up. Things have strung out some within the first half mile and we are able to pass easily to the right. We pick off people here and there. I am just setting an easy pace moving the legs smoothly. First hill not bad even pass a few. Second same thing. Third hold my own 4th hill is a warm up for the killer hill. Holding on when Ken catches up to say Hi. Mike has taken advantage of the downhill and up ahead a little. Actually drank my water I carried. Felt bad for not taking the reststop water as those guys were freezing for us. Little downhill, then up the big one. Ken catches up again we started up the hill when we reach walking speed with walk. up close the top and run. Got passed by a dozen or so skinny people that really need to know how it feels to carry an extra 40 pounds up that hill. Pretty much downhill or flat from there. The last half mile I start to gain on a guy. As I come up on him he sees me and take off. Couldn't get him then. Been tracking the mile times but trying not to pay attention to overall time. It payed off Almost 4 minutes faster. Last year this time would have kept me from drinking a V8.
What would you do differently?:

I had a good race better then I had hope so not much. Eight pounds lighter then last year so I'll take it. Still wan to run up that hill. Guess I need to work hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Watch Ken come in. Walked and tried to breath. Hiked back to race central for pasta and sauce.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight duh!

Event comments:

When I woke this morning I was a little down about having to run. I have been staying off my feet to allow a pain in my lower left leg. It helped as Legs felt good and really not much pain to speech of.

4 races in this series down two to go.

I like it.
