Swim
Comments: Just felt really comfortable the whole time. Water temp felt good. There was a little bit of a crowd at a couple points, but nothing serious. What would you do differently?: Maybe kick more, as my swimming instructor says I should. Transition 1
Comments: This is estimated, since T1 and the bike split were combined in the results. Feet caught a little on the wetsuit, other than that things were smooth. What would you do differently?: I didn't practice/think through transitions as much as in the past. Bike
Comments: New bike, and the last 4 months of training really made a difference. One scary gust of wind blew me across the road a bit, but overall there were no major issues. The rain squall hit just as I was going down the big hill before the Folly Quarter traffic circle. Nothing like rain in your face at 40 MPH. What would you do differently?: Nothing. The rain slowed me down a little, but it wasn't worth the risk. Transition 2
Comments: Only thing I messed up was not putting on my knee band, which led to (duh) my knee hurting by mile 4 of the run. What would you do differently?: Put on knee band. Run
Comments: Coming out of T2, I knew I had a really good shot at breaking my goal time of 3 hours. Spent most of the run figuring in my head how slow I could go and still make it under 3. The hills were tough, but like with the bike, training and losing 30 lbs. didn't hurt. What would you do differently?: Could've pushed more, but my knee was getting achy. Post race
Warm down: Found my wife and daughter, stretched, had a beer. Went and got a massage, and met Chrissie Wellington as she was leaving from getting hers! Pretty cool lady. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind and rain slowed things down a little on the bike. I might have been able to push a little harder on the run, but I have Eagleman next month and didn't want to blow my knee up. Event comments: I am stoked. I got caught up behind the bike accident last year, but even with that my time would have been about 3:15 - 3:20. I had been telling myself for the last few days that sub-3 might not be in the cards, since I hadn't done any events yet this year to really gauge my progress. I am so happy to be this much healthier, not just in terms of triathlon but in overall lifestyle. Bring on Eagleman! Last updated: 2008-12-01 12:00 AM

Up at 4AM, out the door a little before 5. Set up transition and watched the pros start.
None really, other than a few yards of swimming before the start.
