Overall Rank = 283/361
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 17/19
Pre-race routine:

Had a bagel, a banana, half a power bar, and two immodium. Arrived, got set up, and waited in the rain.
Event warmup:

Running to the bathroom and back.
Swim
  • 12m 46s
  • 545 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was gross. Really gross. I have issues that water that doesn't move, and this confirmed all of them. We started shoulder deep in the water. I feel good about the swim in retrospect, but I never felt good in the water. After the swim, there was a 300 yard jog up hill to the transition area. Wisely decided to put shoes in place for this part of the jog.
What would you do differently?:

Practice OWS. Not swim in a pond again.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

I was happy with the way I'd set up transition, so this went smoothly. My shoes were already on from running up the hill from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Put on socks.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 2s
  • 15 miles
  • 13.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Lots of climbing. Chain popped off on a downhill, and apparently a tailgater almost ran into me as I pulled off.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Get a tune up the week of the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Goo is disgusting.
What would you do differently?:

Put on socks.
Run
  • 32m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

My race partner was already finished as I went out for the run, and I swore at him (I'm not proud). I walked maybe ten segments of thirty seconds each. My legs were pretty wasted by this point. The course was nice and flat and had some shade on the way out, but the hill to finish was like a punch in the face. I think I was able to maintain the illusion of "running" up the hill, but it suhuhuhucked.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, shade, car ride home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too little training.

Event comments:

People seemed to enjoy the hawaiian shirt. It actually worked just fine as a race jersey.
