Pre-race routine:

Up at 3 AM..way too much energy to sleep. I left around 4:45 and got there with plenty of time. I was all over the place getting ready. Forgot stuff at the car and had to back. I was about to start a swim warm up and realize I left the chip in my bag. Ugh.
Event warmup:

Finally, did a few out and backs to make sure the shoulders were ready to rock. I had great feel for the water...very good sign. Finally met Coldfire! We talked before the race. I met up with Ron and talked about tri stuff.
Swim

Comments:

Booyah...great swim. This was the way to finish off the season. I sighted perfectly, rounded the buoys right, and was picking people of the whole time. I had one guy pull up beside me after the first right hand turn. He was pushing to go stroke for stroke. I backed off and fell back to his hip and drafted for about 100 yards. He tired out and I left him. :-)
What would you do differently?:

Not a damn thing!
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Had to get the speed suite off which added a few seconds, but other wise I kept it simple and ran hard out of T-1. I did the flying mount and....the freakin chain came off. Almost bit it right there. Too funny. Got the bike under control, shifted to the big ring to get the chain back on and took off.
What would you do differently?:

Check the chain before racking? Good place to start! Otherwise, I was 8th fastest in AG. Not bad.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 5s

Comments:

Typical Tug course....nice challenge. I started out a little slow as I was trying to get HR down. It was jacked at 165 and I knew I had to get it down. After a few miles I got it back to high Z3 / low Z4. I wanted 20 MPH average, but I cooked the legs just getting that goal. I was doing well until mile 15. I started getting passed right and left. Little bummed at being 28th best in AG. Ugh. I know I can do better.
What would you do differently?:

Need more trainer intervals and miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Within 8 seconds of the fastest transition. I am getting good at the flying dismount. I came in hot and the volunteer was yelling "dismount line, dismount line" I stepped off right at the line and ran with the bike. As I was stepping off, she said "Oh, ok". LOL.
What would you do differently?:

It was fine.
Run
  • 56m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

41 out of 53. WTF. I am tired of lack of run results. I was actually doing a little below 8:45 miles (which was the goal) up to mile 4. I was feeling confident and keeping good form. Suddenly, the wheels fell off the bus. The last two miles were slooooow. I over cooked on the bike and did not get off fresh. I think it caught up with me. I pushed as hard as I could on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I tired to push through, but just could not get back on track.
Post race
Warm down:

I finished and was completely drained. I wobbled a bit and got my bearings. I walked down and got my race t-shirt, got some food. I talked with a few people. I was still drained. I got my bike and walked back to the car. I opened the hatchback on the car and saw a nice inviting nest. So, I climbed in and slept for 30 minutes. Felt much better afterward. I wanted to spend some time with Ron and Coldfire, but ran out of time.

This was 18 minutes faster than 2 years ago, so I am making slow progress.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more saddle time and more run miles...
