Pre-race routine:

After getting out of bed, I had a nice breakfast and gathered up what I wanted to wear for the race. Got dressed and headed over to pick up Dudley. We got to the race site and picked up our race numbers and hit the restrooms on the way back to the truck. Sat in the truck to stay warm and wait for the start. We found Mike on the way to the race start.
Event warmup:

Just walking with Mike and Dudley on the quarter mile +/- to the race start.

Comments:

We seeded ourselves towards the back of the pack. I thought I had gotten the cold weather race attire down, but standing waiting for the start the sun came out and I could feel the difference the sun was going to make. After the start we took off at a fairly reasonable pace. Ran with Mike and Dudley for the first couple of miles. Felt good on the first couple of hills and pick off a few runners. But I was starting to get warm and was struggling to keep the pace. Mike even turned around and pulled me along a time or two, but between overheating and starting to weaze a bit today was not going to be a day to PR this course. Dudley and I walked up the biggest hill about mile 4, but I think it did us more good than harm as my running pace up that hill wasn't far off the walking pace and it gave me a short recovery for the final couple of miles.
Finished fairly strong, last half mile was my fastest pace of the race so I was happy with that.
They bill this race as a 10kish and even have a marker at the 10k mark. But it is a bit of a mental challenge to see the 10k sign and not be able to see the finish yet!
What would you do differently?:

Lose a layer before I started.
Post race
Warm down:

Chatted with Mike and Dudley as well as some other people we know. Walk over to the lodge for some food and hot chocolat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too many layers, a few extra pounds (ok, maybe more than a few!), still recovering apparently from the chest cold from a few weeks ago, and these were the final miles on a heavy run week. The race put me over 30 for the week and it has been a few months since that big of a week!

Event comments:

The local running club puts this on as part of a 6 race series. No frills, but always a good time!
