Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6 and had a bowl of Wheaties. Sat in the car while waiting for the windows to defrost and went and picked up Katina. Left by about 7 and made the long drive up to Dalton.
Event warmup:

Ran back and forth from the car to the check in to try and stay warm. It was cold out there!

Comments:

We had zero expectations today. This was just a fun way to get our long run for the week in. The first five miles we just ran casually around an 8:20-8:30 min/mile pace and we're just enjoying the scenery and talking. Around the 5 mile marker we were coming up a hill and I said let's take these people and that was when we started working our way up. By mile 7 I was feeling great and really strong with no discomfort which was really exciting! And the last three miles we started to kick it and passed a lot of people. We ran the last mile just over 6 minutes. It felt great.

Remember to hit the lap button so I can time my mile splits.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little bit, stretched, and had some bananas and bagels. Talked with some people and stuck around for the awards. There were some really fast people there!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I would say starting off as slow as we did, but I think it was worth it considering how strong we felt the second half of the race and how many people we were able to pass. I didn't take any fluids in the entire race. I'm not sure if that's good or not because that's 75 minutes with no fluid intake but my body hates taking in fluids on the run. I'll have to figure something out, especially when it gets hot again to prevent bonking.

Event comments:

A really fun race that made for a great Saturday morning. I would consider doing it again next year to see if I can beat my time from this year.
