Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 5:15 am. Had coffee, eggs & rice. Took shower & got dressed, etc. I live nearby so not in a big hurry. Left about 7 am and got dropped off near the start.
Event warmup:

plenty of time to warm up during the run.

Comments:

It was really cold at the start. I got in with the 5:00 hr. pace group and that worked out pretty well. I stayed with them comfortably up to about 18 miles and then began to fall off the pace some. I had a great time up to this point but then it was down to business! I did my best to run as much as possible the last 6 miles. I had a great time. I carried a handheld water bottle and my own gels. I ate about 3 GUs an hour. I got hungry around mile 19 or so.
What would you do differently?:

Tinker a little more with my electrolyte replacement. My legs got pretty crampy towards the end. Increase my volume a little. I would say by many peoples standards that my training volume was low but it worked ok in my book.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around for a few minutes, found my wife and parents and left. Went home and drank a recovery drink then ate left-over pizza. Eventually took an ice bath and then shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Low Volume, not much specific speed work, leg cramps. I know that as my weight continues to go down, the speed will go up.

Event comments:

Great race! It had been 11 years since my last marathon. I was slower this go around but I enjoyed it more for sure!
