Pre-race routine:

Bar, HEED, mocha, gel
Event warmup:

Just bike warmup
Swim
  • 18m 40s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went further to middle than most, where current was stronger. Didn't really have people around for drafting. But after first few minutes started to take long, efficient strokes and ride the current. Navigated to exit pretty well. Time included fairly long run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Very nice. Was encouraged by swim time and seeing Tim still in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 3s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 21.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Not a fast course. Constant hills and turns.
What would you do differently?:

Very little. Go to small chainring first time up steep ramp. Maybe should have put 11-27 cassette on race wheels.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Pretty good considering I put socks on. With right foot sliced up from river wall previous day and ironman coming up, wasn't about to go sockless.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 45m 17s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 18s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my speed and ability in each discipline. Executed very well.

Event comments:

Small, young race. Just 2nd year and swim was a no-go previous year. But a really nice venue and course--great potential. Was a low priority race for me mainly just to practice swimming in the Ohio, but ended up being a very good day. Pacing, transitions, nutrition, etc. executed about perfectly. Not bad considering heavy week including 94 mile bike/4 mile run previous Thursday. Then again, maybe it was just an average race result that seems better because of the fast swim.

21.4 mph on my computer. 256w average--surely erroneously high (about 30 watts). Power reading strangely high all race even though I calibrated beforehand. Didn't want to take the time to re-zero during race, so just tried to stay consistent. 260w for first half and 252w for second half.
