Overall Rank = 73/146
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 9/13
Pre-race routine:

Up at 545 for 8am start. Stayed at Clays park venue. Isagenix Shake at 6a. Vanilla Frapaccino at 645. Sports Beans at 715
Event warmup:

Walked around venue to BR and back. No s/b/r warmup
Swim
  • 09m 47s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Seemed to be in lead group of my wave almost to first buoy. At that point I seemed to start having a lot of trouble catching my breath. Usure if I simply went out too fast or if this first swim in a wetsuit contributed. I felt very fast in the wetsuit but the constriction around my chest seemed to be part of why I couldn't catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

I definitely need to do more OWS practice with the wetsuit. I think that would have helped a lot.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Would need to trim this down to 1:30 to be competitive
Bike
  • 42m 18s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Passed a number of other riders and got passed by a few. Probably 50% of time in aero.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. Spend more time in aero and work on improved position/fit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Felt like I needed a breather but I didn't take one.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty good hill just before coming into transition and I probably should have not pushed it as hard at that point. Really paid for it on the first half lap of the run
Run
  • 29m 49s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Really felt bad during the first loop especially. Did not feel like I had a good run. Ran 23:55 5k just 3 weeks ago and expected to be a little slower today, but not as slow as I was.
What would you do differently?:

Keep running. I'm writing these comments before the race results are in but I believe that the run is my worst event, especially today. I've been biking for years and seem to have picked up the swimming fairly quickly. Only been running for 6 mos now so I have a lot of room to improve.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around race venue. Stretched a little. Took in a banana, some sports drink and water. After about 30 min a far BOP member of our group came by starting his second lap of the run, so I walk/jogged the 1.6 with him for moral support. Nice warm down also. He finished in 2:18 or something but his perserverence was inspiring.

Event comments:

First tri in 22 years so hard for me to evaluate the race. Only about 150 participants so it was a very nice size for my first race back.
