Pre-race routine:

What a disaster. Running late (obviously), got off the metro about 7:15, thought I had plenty of time to hit the port-a-poties. Sure enough, the shortest line still took me to 7:55 to actually make it in (10 minutes after my wave already left). Next time, no morning coffee.
Event warmup:

None, stretching in line for the port-a-poties.

Comments:

I am pissed off that I started so late, so I go out like a bat out of hell. I think, "ok, this is good, there's nobody around me, I'll be fine." Just then I notice that all of the port-a-poties on the course in the first .5 miles were completely empty. Just my luck.

Then I hit the wall of the purple wave. Bob, weave, grass, sidewalk, in the opposite lane, I did everything in my power to get through. I was constantly speeding up, slowing down, running diagonally, running on the side of a hill, talk about frustrating. I spent about 8.5 miles in the grass/sidewalk because there was no point in running in the road. I finally made it back up to the rear of the blues around mile 9 and finished strong.

I think they said there were only 15,000 that signed up for this, I'm seriously re-considering running the Army 10-miler (30,000) in October, I couldn't imagine doubling that amount of people.
What would you do differently?:

START IN MY WAVE.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching, not exactly many places to get a warm-down run in but I was ok with that. Next stop, gluttony @ Liberty Tavern buffet in Clarendon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't eat/drink anything on the course, so I'm not sure if that helped or hurt me. Bobbing and weaving didn't help either.

Event comments:

Overall I really liked this race, weather was great and a bunch of friends/family came and ran it too which was cool. I think I really hindered my ability by starting so far behind which I can only blame myself for.
