Swim
Comments: Thought I did a lot better than I ended up with a time for. I only got passed by a couple of people, and I caught quite a few and even got up into the next wave. I thought it was pretty funny the male 40-44 group went out to the song, "Like a Girl." One bright point was getting cheered on by Kristin, as I got out of the water. Thanks!! What would you do differently?: Not wear the tri short and top and go back to the one piece. I felt like an umbrella of fabric was open during my swim. Oh, and quit my job and get some practice in. ;) Transition 1
Comments: Overall pretty good. Jogged it in and got changed fairly quickly for me. This was about a minute faster than last year. What would you do differently?: Just move faster Bike
Comments: Hey, top third in the bike is what I like, and I was trying to conserve a little for the run. Silly me. Should have just hammered it anyway. What would you do differently?: Rode a little harder and gotten my aerobars squared away pre-race. I got into them once, almost spilled and never tried again. Should have had the shop put my bike back together again after shipping it. Transition 2
Comments: STUPID MOVE...my bike was racked at the opposite end from run start point. Got in, moved quick, got changed, almost on to the run course, literally feet from the mat, and I realized, "you idiot, you don't have your race number on." Now, what happened next may have compounded the error or not, but I wasn't sure of the rule, so I ran back to my transition area to get my number, THEN I went back to start my run. What would you do differently?: Notice my race belt sitting on top of my running shoes, and not throw it to the side and think to myself, "I'll put that on in a second." Run
Comments: As spectacularly bad as I expected. 'nuff said What would you do differently?: Run more; run more often. Post race
Warm down: Got some water, then went to cheer Kristin on. I never saw her though. I got to the swim chute before the women came in, but somehow I missed her. I waited until there were no more packs of people and it just looked like stragglers, then I headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of specific training, period. I had enough latent training from my May tri to help some, along with about 3 weeks of intermittent training. Race was ok, for what it was. Event comments: Best part of the race for me was watching an Olympic competitor run up the swim area to transition, while cradling his son in his arms. His son looked to be 6-7 years old, and obviously with impaired physical abilities. It darn near brought tears to my eyes - what a great dad! Kristin...4th place!!!?? You go, girl! Not much...due to work taking precedence over training, I showed up just looking to make it through and capitalize on what strengths I have...only worked on the bike somewhat.
Pre-event swim and getting used to the water again - haven't seen water since the middle of May.
