Swim
Comments: I wanted to swim this a little harder, but for some reason I didn't. I just cruised it. Several times I found good feet to follow and that helped. Mostly I just swam. In all, an average swim. Looking back on it 2 days later, I'm kicking myself that I didn't hammer it. I had a good start right up front on the first lap. Just as I started the second lap, the younger guys in the sprint wave started. Got beat up a bit, but nothing too bad. What would you do differently?: Swim harder! Really, I could have done better here. Transition 1
Comments: It's a LONG way from the water to the bike. There were wetsuit strippers and they asked me if I needed help. At first I said no, then changed my mind. But I forgot to unzip my ankles. So it was stuck. Took two people to pull it off. Lesson of the day... unzip for the strippers. ;) What would you do differently?: Hustle a bit more. And unzip the ankles. Bike
Comments: Finally, the bike. This is where I knew I had to kick azz. And I really did try. The wind was pretty tough; crosswind from the west. That meant that I couldn't stay on the aerobars as much as I'd like. It was kind of crowded until the sprint riders peeled off. After that, it was pretty open. Passed a few people still and got passed a few times. Kind of average for me. Even though my HR was kind of low, I felt like I was going pretty hard. The tailwind on 100th was sweet! Kept sipping gel and water the whole time. Love that gel flask! What would you do differently?: Not sure. Maybe I could have pushed a bit more, but maybe not. Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2. Nothing really wrong here, except that it was a big T area and I don't run fast. Had to get my knee strap and put it on, so that took a little time. Also grabbed some Chomps for the road. What would you do differently?: Run faster? Run
Comments: The first 2 miles felt great. Ok, not great, but pretty good. I was right on pace with 9:45 miles. Then the wheels fell off the bus. My legs just wouldn't move any faster. No matter what I did or thought, nothing was making me move any quicker. And I needed to pee. I saw that 63 min run start to slip away and I couldn't do anything about it. Crap. This was a disappointing run as I know I can do better. What would you do differently?: Maybe my nutrition was off. Lack of calories? I don't know. I'm still wondering what happened here. Post race
Warm down: After I finally found the finish line after that miserable run, I got some water and stretched my aching legs. What limited your ability to perform faster: The usual. My plan was to go hard on the swim and bike and survive the run. Maybe I could have gone harder. It's not like it would have hurt my run any more than it already hurt. That's the plan for HOLT at least. Sacrifice the run. Event comments: Another great race for WIN Multisports! Thanks to Bill, Wendy and crew. Looking forward to Waseca in a month. Holy carp, that's just a month away! Yikes! Last updated: 2008-12-19 12:00 AM

I really tried to rest as much as possible going into this race because I was looking for big improvement over last year. Not sure that happened, but I don't think I rested enough. Good dinner on Saturday night (green enchiladas) and early to bed. Breakfast of the usual PBB bagel and coffee. It's so nice to do a local race and not have to drive hours and camp out. Chatted with a few people and saw Cori and Abby, who were doing their first ever race.
Got to the park around 6am and found an empty rack. After picking up chips, we took the bikes out for a bit. I didn't run since I knew I had lots of mile to run later. No real time to get in and swim before, so I guess I didn't do that either. Pretty standard for me and warmups.
Nutrition- gel right before lining up to start
