Swim
Comments: Arms were heavy. I think from the cold and long wait. Very good sighting after my fiasco in Waco. I sighted from buoy to buoy instead of two or more ahead. :) I was to the left of one bouy but not by much, I was right on the others. What would you do differently?: Warmup those arms. Transition 1
Comments: Had terrible trouble getting my wet jersey on. If it had not been for that my T-1 time would have been great. What would you do differently?: Look into just wearing a tri-top and not a jersey. Carry my nutrition elsewhere. Bike
Comments: Within 200 feet of mounting the bike something did not look right with my handlebars. They were offset from the wheel some. So, I hauled it back into T and had the guy fix it up for me. A couple of minutes but wanted the safety. Through all of the wetness and physical discomfort I maintained a great attitude and a smile. Saying thank you to the police and volunteers helps to take the mind off such things. I never practiced hand ups before the race so I was a little nervous about it. Got to the first aid station, yelled out "Kid in the blue jacket" He held it out perfectly and off I was. The second hand up went just as smooth! Just wish I would not have had to dismount at mile 6. I do know that more core work is needed for next season. My lower back was tight for most of the ride. What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of as the pit stops were necessary. Core work. Transition 2
Comments: Had a great lady volunteer to help me get my compression top on. Thought about changing into dry tri shorts but when I reached inside the T bag everything was soaked. :( Getting everything on was ok, it was the walking in T that added the time here. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Until mile 11 I was hard on the 4:30/1:00 intervals, sans one where I began walking 20 seconds early. At mile 11 I just wanted to savor the moments and walk. I could have continued with the intervals. What would you do differently?: Maintain 4:30/1:00 throughout. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Went up to wifey and cried a bit (as I told her I would). Mom and dad were there to hug and kiss too. Told wifey that alll my post race clothes were wet and that my recovery tights were unwearable. :( So, headed off to one of the vendor tents to purchase some dry ones. Couldn't get them on until the hotel but once I did they felt great. Once I got to the hotel I soaked in an ice bath for about ten minutes. We then headed out for a good steak. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mainly the weather. Event comments: Will do this race again! Last updated: 2008-12-21 12:00 AM

Woke up at 04:30. Had breakfast #1 of plain bagel, PB and two packets of instant oatmeal. Got all glided up and dressed. Called mom and dads' room to wake them up. In car and headed to venue by 5:15. Arrived and parking was atrocious, so we pulled up to a close point to transition to drop me off. Hauled a my stuff to transition. Found out later that they were able to remain parked where they let me out!
Laid out transition. Talked to a a couple of guys around me and then headed to the swim corral.
At about 20 minutes before the beginning of the full wave the RD came out and announced a short delay. Then another delay, and another. This was due to some flooding on the bike course from the downpour. I headed to one of the changing tents to find one of those mylar blankets as I was becoming sighty hypothermic.
The fourth announcement was another deay and that they were also considering a contingency plan of a swim/run/swim. Once I heard that I decided to turn in my chip if they did that.
Another 20 minutes passed and the RD came back and announced that the full race would go on with a mandatory bike dismount at mile 6.
Went back to the corral, put on the goggles and cap and awaited my wave.
