Swim
Comments: I think I am developing a preference for open water swims. Not crazy about constantly turning around every 25m and the lanes are narrow making it tough to pass. What would you do differently?: Learn to swim better. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well. I was really just glad to be out of the water and on the bike. No problem finding my bike. What would you do differently?: Need to practice transitions more and streamline the process. Bike
Comments: The course was really windy by the time I got out there with the late swim start as a result of my slow 100meter time. The people that went out earlier had faster bike splits because the wind came up during the morning. For the first 15 minutes, there was a 15-20 mph headwind with stronger gusts. Then we had crosswinds, then a nice stretch with a great tailwind. What would you do differently?: Wouldn't do much differently. I think I went as fast as I could for the conditions. My average speed on my Garmin was 18.4mph. Not sure where the discrepancy is between the average on the Garmin and the chip time. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went pretty well. My legs were pretty tight, but overall, no issues. What would you do differently?: Not much except practice transitions more. Run
Comments: I held a 9:06 pace by my Garmin instead of the 8:31 pace calculated by the race report software. Regardless, this is just about exactly where I expected to end up. It is the fastest pace I have been able to keep up in any triathlon. What would you do differently?: I need to get in more long slow runs to prepare. My calves started feeling tight 1/4 to 1/2 mile into the run and I had to slow down my pace for about 2-3 minutes to make sure they didn't cramp up on me. This really killed my run in a previous triathlon, so I didn't want it to happen again. Pretty soon they felt great and I resumed my pace until my quads started doing the same thing during mile 2. I didn't slow down for them though, just decided to go for it and see what happened. Went away like the calf tightening after 1/2 mile or so. Post race
Warm down: Chatted with Jim and Vicki and hooked up with Carol and the kids. They had come out to cheer me on and it really helped keep me going. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to do more training and especially need to get the swimming thing down. Event comments: Good short distance tri. The only factor at play is the weather since it can be almost anything in the end of March. Last updated: 2008-12-21 12:00 AM

Nothing special. Had a Clif bar and took my usual vitamins.
Little bit of jogging back and forth to the car and rode the bike for about 10 minutes to check everything out.
