Pre-race routine:

woke up...or did I sleep??? ;) was up at 5 am...my daughter who is running in the HM today too is staying with us and we made a bowl of cereal with pometgrantes and a bit of yogurt. Once we got to the venue we ate a power bar, readied our fuel belts and headed to the start. Made a few visits to the lew...nerves! ;) this is my first official HM...so not sure what to expect! I only have ran 11.5 miles for my long distant runs....can I add the almost 2 miles?
Event warmup:

No warm up...was just reserving every bit of energy...we walked the 10-15 min walk from HP Pavilian to the start...hung out and listened to the band that was playing near the corals...and lined up...we both lined up in coral 7...my daughter decided she would run with me since this is basically a training run for her upcoming IM. I think that corral 6 was the most crowded...they were bulging on all sides with runners who could barely get in the gates...was a slow start but fine by me! :)

Comments:

started a little too fast for me...but got caught up in the moment. I know this effected my end performance...but I ran the entire race with my daughter only stopping to use the restroom or to get a water...Not coordinated enough to run and drink...and this did help me to recover a bit. Did feel like I could have really sprinted to the finish..but know that is dumb and realize now, I could maybe have kept a higher pace. this is my first HM and I am pleased with how I did.
What would you do differently?:

not much...felt good about how i did...would like to speed up..but that will come as I run more.
Post race
Warm down:

walked thru the finishers shoot...they keep us fenced off from the others...there were tons of volunteers as well as racers in this area...got our finishers medal then as you walk thru the shoot on either side were volunteers handing out cut fruit, cytomax, bagels, energy bars, waters, muffins....I was soooo full of energy gel that all I wanted was water and to get somewhere to stretch. Tried to find the BT group...but really didnt know who to look for? I made a couple of trips there but thought they probably already left. Headed to the beer tent...saw the guy who I work with and who had hired all the bands....he pushed us to the front of the line...did I look that thirsty??? ;) listened to the band for a little while but we were getting chilled and our warm dry clothes were in the car 15 minute walk from there...so we decided to leave...plus, we were going to Golden Gate park tonight for a huge Bluegrass festival with 59 bands playing on 6 various stages.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my legs! ;)

Event comments:

I signed up for next year...now I know what to expect! ;) was a great race...and my hats off to the race director. great bands, nice quaint neighborhoods to run in...I was a bit disappointed with the goody bags...they had dog treats and some other random thing..but really no energy bars! WHAT UP WITH THAT?...great t shirt though! and I have never in my life seen more volunteers at the water stations and everywhere in between!
