Age Group Rank = 65/81
Pre-race routine:

Ate egg beaters and whole wheat toast. Drank alot of water. Used nebulizer (cold water asthma). Drove to Boulder and parked in a field. Took Naprosyn and drove with ice pack on ankle.
Event warmup:

Stretching, peeing, setting up transition. Swimming, swimming and more swimming.
Swim
  • 44m 2s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I really expected this to go better, then didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing!
What would you do differently?:

Sight better!
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

I could not, for the life of me, get my wetsuit off my right foot! Ended up having to step on it to pull other leg out and then I tipped my bike over. I think my little head cold had me more uncoordinated than usual! Could have been better.
What would you do differently?:

Balance. More Glide?????
Bike
  • 1h 35m 31s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 16.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like I rode stronger than last year, but not much I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm, not sure. I rode well, do have a cheap bike I'd like to upgrade someday :)
Transition 2
  • 03m 4s
Comments:

Had to squirt some water on my face to get the salt off (burning eyes), put sunscreen on and fix my hair a little, otherwise, it's the best I could do. Transition area was far from both bike in and run out, so would have been longer transition either way.
What would you do differently?:

Washed my face on bike earlier. Carry smaller sunsreen and put on during my walk/jog.
Run
  • 1h 14m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Both feet and my right ankle hurt, as expected. Right foot eventually went numb, and then I could run a little faster.
What would you do differently?:

I can only get one cortisone injection for my feet per year, and I'm saving that up for the Long Course. (In other words, I could have done that, but saving up for the longer race. After I get the right foot and ankle fixed surgically, this should be less of an issue.)
Post race
Warm down:

Massage, shower, eat

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting off course on the swim as much as I did, stupid wetsuit getting stuck on my foot in T1, and can't really run on my ankle.

Event comments:

This is still my favorite triathlon of those I've done.

Performance: Below average
I was soooo disappointed with my swim. I expected to take about 4 minutes off last year's swim time, but this was nearly a full minute slower. I had a head cold yesterday, and still had a runny nose, so decided to wear earplugs to avoid water in ears as I thought I might be susceptible to an ear infection. I think this is why I swam so far off course TWICE! I estimate swimming more like 1700-1800 meters.
Suit: De Soto T1, bottom half only
Course: Counter-clockwise. Started into the sun and I kept going when I was supposed to turn left because I was not paying attention, couldn't see, and couldn't hear other swimmers around me. A volunteer on a boat got my attention and sent me in the right direction. I did this AGAIN at the last buoy! Very frustrated with myself!
