Swim
Comments: Swim start was good. The line was not too crowded so I picked a nice open spot in the second row. Started with alternate side breathing, but eventually settled on right side, because I felt faster. First half of swim I felt I was struggling a bit. My wetsuit felt tight across my chest, so I felt constricted. Switched to belly breathing which helped. Towards the end, I felt better, and started passing people. The water was warm and very nice to swim in. What would you do differently?: More wetsuit time, maybe push a little harder. Overall fairly happy with swim. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on timing chip, so I had to sit down to take it off. Drank a bottle of water, talked to the bike attendant, then walked my bike up the hill to the start. What would you do differently?: Not much. I will work on the wetsuit problem, so that will get better. I had everything I needed out, so that was good. Could have been faster, but oh well. Bike
Comments: The bike course was as advertised - Hilly! Could not find a good tempo for the first couple of miles due to the rolling type of terrain. Once I was able to get over the major climbs I was able to make some good time on the way back in. What would you do differently?: Nothing much. Happy with my time. Knowing the course will make it a little easier next year. Transition 2
Comments: Walked bike down hill back into transition. Drank some water. Changed shoes, then headed out. What would you do differently?: Nothing really! Run
Comments: Just could not find my legs the first half of the run. Once i turned around on the bridge I was able to get some spped, then finally found a pacer that pulled me to the line. What would you do differently?: Run a little harder. I crossed the finish line with way too much left. Post race
Warm down: Drank 2 bottles of water, ate some pizza, and pretzels, then relaxed in the sun for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just the general unknown of what is coming next. Next year, I will know the course a little better, so I think I can use this to my advantage. Event comments: I loved the race and the course! I will definitely be back next year! Woke up at 3:30am. Ate 2 bananas and cup of yogurt plus coffe for breakfast. On the road at 4am. I was told to get there early because of traffic, which I did. Unfortunately, the the park was still not open, so I drove the sprint bike course. Was able to make some mental notes about hills and curves, etc. which helped a lot. Parked car, and was set-up in transition by 6:30. gave me extra time to mellow and talk to my fellow rack mates!
Swam for about 15 minutes before start. Water was warmer than air temp, so i floated around and swam most of the pre-start.
