Run
Comments: Overall- good! Very consistent pace. I kept pace with Tracy and for the first time ran monitoring the heart rate. We targetted 150 originally, then increased that to 160. We really walked for less than 10 seconds at water stops--I had to drink as we kept moving (this is a MAJOR change for me). Two bathroom stops (I only went 1x). Salt at Mile 4 due to sweat then Gatorade at miles 6 and 8. Very small water cups...so less hydration than ever before on the course:) Also- the poweraid gels were gross! (I had one at mile 8 and gave the other to Tracy). Legs were good most of run--left IT band and hip started tighting up mile 7. But I definetly had enough in the tank to really pick up the pace the last 3 miles. But we made a commitment to keep consistent pace---and we did. Probably why I felt so great afterwards. What would you do differently?: Change out the poweraide gels. Remember how Tracy did not let me walk so much and I was perfectly fine! Post race
Warm down: Walk 1/2mile back to hotel. Shower, then walk through New Orleans for a few hours. Great way to keep legs loose. (Monday both IT bands are real tight). What limited your ability to perform faster: Trying to stay within target HR range. I defintely feel as if I could have taken 1-5 minutes off by picking up the pace at the end. Event comments: water cups are a lot smaller than what I am used to. Volunteers seemed surprised that I wanted 2. Also thrown when I wanted both water and gatorade. But the volunteers were great and I really appreciate all their help! Last updated: 2008-12-26 12:00 AM
