Swim
Comments: Very quick swim! Felt really good about the swim! I'd like to work more on dipping head down and TI-style swimming; in the excitement of my first race, technique suffered a bit. What would you do differently?: Rember to set my chrono and timer! Totally forgot to do this at the start and I didn't know my times until after the race. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was .25 to .5 miles away from the beach! A very long, barefoot run between the beach and my bike made for a long T time. My bike was easy to find. Wetsuit came off like a snap. Walked to bike in/out (too crowded to jog). Hopped on the bike and everything snapped into place. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Thankfully, I had done a lot of hill work with my coach (husband). I didn't fear the hills at all. Being relaxed kept me happy and confident. Felt, at the end of the course, that I could have gone faster. What would you do differently?: Climb more, keep spinning, speedwork to prepare. I had wanted to finish the bike leg in under 40 minutes, so I was a bit off. Transition 2
Comments: Felt fast and happy. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Felt slow, although my run was a PB. Ran the whole way, felt sluggish on the hills, but took advantage of the downhills. Concentrated on drinking enough water, and fast feet. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Lack of sleep left me with less endurance than usual, and I think I could have really done better on this leg. Post race
Warm down: Walking around, drinking plenty of Gatorade and water, with slices of watermelon. Stretching and revelling in my new-found status as a triathlete! What limited your ability to perform faster: Needed more sleep and more breakfast. A wedding that we went to last night meant late to bed and very early to rise to drive from NH to southern MA. Next time, I would eat a bigger dinner (and breakfast), get more sleep, and more water the day before. Event comments: This race was a wonderful first-time introduction to racing tri. The course was challenging, without being ridiculously difficult. I was disappointed to see no race personnel on the course. I constantly saw women crossing the middle yellow line, holding up cars, ignorning "car back" and putting themselves in the line of traffic, and wearing headphones!! Volunteer support and race directors explained everything clearly. The female comeraderie was so, so encouraging! I will definitely do this race again! Last updated: 2005-06-20 12:00 AM

Arrived at 6:00 a.m. Checked and pumped tires, brought gear into transition, made sure I was drinking plenty of water. After chatting with the BT folks at the entrance (great sign, Max!), I set up my transition area and put on my wetsuit. I walked down the beach and warmed up. The water felt fabulous and nice and clear. (Large fish, though!). I kept limber and stretching for the 45 minutes from race start to my wave start.
Est. 600 yard swim, nice and easy strokes, little kicking, kept warm in the water until just before my wave start.
