Run
Comments: Garmin didn't pick up the satellites until I was out of downtown. Very annoying. Then Kim's was tracking us and lost the satellite. So we had no clue what our distance (although we found out after a few miles my Garmin was .30 off the actual distance) or time was. Finally got the distance thing worked out... but the time.... who knows. We came in around 2:53. But we didn't leave exactly when the timer started. Otherwise... sweet mother... it was SO COLD and WINDY! Oh yeah. The two things I hate. I wore tri shorts and tights on my legs. For my torso I wore a tri top (good for holding gels), a cold weather gear long sleeved shirt, a running jacket AND my cold weather gear cycling jacket (as it's made to block the wind). Yep, 4 layers on my torso. I NEVER ONCE got hot. In fact, my feet and hands were numb until about mile 5. The wind was just brutal too. It's blowing around 30 mph, and not in gusts. Sustained wind. Kim did great and we stuck together the whole time (Like I would have run off or something??). She was hurting a bit for the last 4 miles, and I was her cheerleader pushing her to keep moving at a good pace. The overall course was nice, I thought. Yes there are some uphills, but oddly they didn't bother me. I felt pretty good the whole race. My left arch was really hurting pretty bad early on and towards the end my inner thigh muscles were burning... but not anything I can't push through. My goal is to go back year after year... so I can complete the star with the medals! It will be awesome! Event comments: Overall a great race and nice course. I wish it had been warmer, but what can ya do? It's a very nice race. I especially love that if you do the half marathon, marathon or ultra marathon from 2009-2013, you will be able to form a star with the medals. Great way to win repeat business! :) Last updated: 2008-12-29 12:00 AM

My friend Kim came in town from Minnesota to do this race with me. It was a good warm up race for our marathon in May!
