Swim
Comments: The water was to warm for a wetsuit. I should have just tri shorts or swim skin. Transition 1
Comments: What was I doing for nine minutes? Bike
Comments: I rented a set of race wheels for this race. I had never ridden a set of ZIPPS. So I thought I give it a try. I rode a 404 front, 808 in the rear. I was on pace for around a 6 hour bike but flatted around mile 55. Oh well changed the flat and kept moving. Aside from the flat the bike went as well as I expected. What would you do differently?: Change a flat faster. Transition 2
Comments: Did a complete change from bike shorts and jersey to running shorts and drifit shirt and socks. Run
Comments: One of these days I am going to nail the IM marathon in under four hours. My last three run times in IM 447, 432 and MOO 448. I can never run that second half without walking the aid stations. During the second half I had to vist the port-a-potty at miles 18 and 19. At mile 21 I vomited 3 times at out came all the cola, gatorade and food from the day that my body did not absorb. At that point I was ready to call it the day. I was dizzy, dehydrated. So I did the 6 minute run, 2 minute walk the last 5 miles. I did not want to DNF. After the race I weighed my self. I was 179 at check-in. 162 after the race. I stopped and used an officials phone at mile 24 to call my wife at home for motivation to take it in. She said are you quitting I had feeling you would DNF today. I said no I just needed you to tell me not to DNF because if I DNF would have to signup for 2010. I told her I would not Ironman next year. Post race
Warm down: Since I was alone I gathered all my gear and went back to the room. I have to say I am glad I stayed at the Hilton. It was close to everything. Went to the Great Dane for dinner. Good food. Event comments: I am taking the next year off from IM and going to do only oly and him's next year. I would like to take a family vacation next summer and contiue to coach my girls softball team. IM and Softball are not a good combo. I did it this year twice but it was a grind. My kid has talent and her pitching has a higher notch on the list than IM. Last updated: 2008-12-29 12:00 AM

Arrived in Madison Friday around 11am. Left my wife and kids at home as they had a busy weekend of softball and cheerleading. The weekend was mine and all about Ironman. It would be my second one for the year after doing Vineman Full 6 weeks earlier during our vacation out to California.
I was a little concerned with the mass start as I have only done wave starts and the time trial start at IMLOU last year. It turned out not to be big deal. My only complaint about the swim is it felt like I was constantly trying to swim over or around someone. No clear water. Other than that uneventful
