Pre-race routine:

Got to bed early 9:30. Up at 4:00 to a downpour. Oh wait lightning too!! Yeeha! Lynn picked me up at 4:30. Yeah he had a big smile on too. I looked at radar and it was clearing at the race site. Driving there it just got worse and worse. Radar lied it was rain ing when we got there. It did let up for the swim so at least that was dry :>? We got there before they opened up registration. First in line and under the roof sweet. Walk over and were first in line for body marking. They were doing in in the back of a Ryder truck to stay dry. I got virgin marker it was her first time. I was gentle. Met up with Judy she was nervous. Set up TA. Man we had a ton of room and got the end spot close to the porta potty. Drank Judy's coffee and got cow bells. Headed to swim.
Event warmup:

Swan about 50 yds. Talked to Twinracer.
Swim
  • 27m 43s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started up front center between Danielle and Doyle. Two master gals. Did well hanging with them for about 500 yds then started to loose them. There was about 6 of us up front. Felt good to have some room. Swim out was straight into the chop so drank a little water was just thinking how nice it will to swim back with it. Kept the little voice going on in my head form beats brawn. Felt good coming out of the water, but had to pee.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Stripped wet suit down to waist and hit the porta potty. Great! cold, shrinkage, took a longer the I wanted for sure. Grab shoes, helmet glasses and bike and make a good run to exit.
What would you do differently?:

Swim was good nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 14s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Rain the farther I rode the wetter it got. The hills weren't killing me but could not really get things moving. Had lots of room. No one to pass. Got passed by a few. Every mile or so there was spectator or volunteer cheering you on. That was great. One gel and some gatorade.
It was wet and when I could pick it up the rain drops sting a little. Once we merged back in with the sprinters there were a few drafting buddies. Nice to start the last downhill. I gotta pee again. Can't bring myself to pee on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Needed little voice telling me to haul ass would ya.
Transition 2
  • 03m 46s
Comments:

Luckily its 10 steps to the porta potty. Rack bike and hit the head. More shrinkage. How does George do it? Change shirt and shoes. Nice to have something on dry for a about 30 seconds. The rain continues
What would you do differently?:

Foley catheter.

Comments:

Well I have got to get this back under control from being in aero. back ache but manageable. Forgot compression sleeves for calves. Run is feeling OK. Hoping to do a sup 10 minute mile lower legs and back had breakfast in mind somewhere dry. After first trip to falls I was able to get things worked out. Run back to lake was OK. Then the turn at the finish. Could you not hide the finish line better. At the start the was a rude sprinter who I guess I thought she better then the volunteers and the other runners. If I had got he number I would have blown her in. Then the 9 year old kid passed me. Damn it I gotta pick it up. I did finally. Lots of mud and puddles. Hit the finish line hearing my name being called. Nice touch.
What would you do differently?:

Compression sleeves for calves.

Warm down:

Hung out with gdale for minute or two. Walked, got a bagel and waited for Judy to finish. Peed of course. Found Lynn standing alone in the eff'innn rain! He was ready to go. So packed up TA and headed back to line to wait fro Judy. Lynn said he would be snoring in the van. Judy and the fam caught me walking. Judy was very excited as she ran a great race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain.
Mental laxity. Really needed to have my head in it more.

Event comments:

I should have tri card suspended for a month or so. I really did poor on the bike with no one to blame but me. I'll get over it, I'm sure Jackie will kick it out of me doing the Ride for Ind 62.5. milers. I guess its a call for next year coming back and kicking this. Off to start the road to Chesapeake Man. 140.6. Guess a little wake up call is good for the soul.
