Swim
Comments: Overall I'm happy with this leg. I've never been a fish so 2min/100m is about the best split I can hope for. The shorter pool helped me (I normally train in a 50m pool and in the week prior my time trials were slower). I was happy with my turns and my stroke. What would you do differently?: Remember to start my watch with the swim start - this is the second time I've forgotten to do that this summer!! Could also improve mental focus, I found my thoughts wandering to the bike and I need to keep them in the water. Transition 1
Comments: Transition area was on semi-shaded pavement a short jog away from the pool. Decided to go no socks on the bike. Good idea. Need to work on mount however What would you do differently?: Better bike mount. Bike
Comments: Loved the rollers! My main goal coming into this race was to put in a solid bike effort. This was my highest mph average this season. The roads were in fair shape, about half the time the pavement was very rough but it smoothed out towards the end. Volunteers did a great job of protecting the intersections. Stayed in my big ring up front the whole course and just tried to push through. What would you do differently?: Improve speed while drinking. I took about three drink breaks and felt I gave up time here (no aero bars mean no easy-access aero bottle). Transition 2
Comments: Racked my bike into my running shoes so they went flying. Retrieved them, put on socks and shoes, grabbed my number and visor and off I go. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to a good racking job. Run
Comments: Solid run. Kept a good first mile cadence and tried to carry things on from there. Chose water at both aid stations but just dumped it on my head to keep cool. What would you do differently?: Improve run training prep - the last couple weeks have been iffy. Map out 1/2 mile from finish line to increase speed. Post race
Warm down: Walking, eating a gondola, stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Well, I was actually really happy with this race. Flip turns would have decreased swim time but they are not a priority for me right now. I could have improved slightly on the bike and the run but really I was happy to finally put a solid race in all three events together. Event comments: As I understand it, this is a second-year race. Organization was pretty good - lots of volunteers for the swim and the bike course and enough for the run (it's also easier to stage that leg). There were delicious sandwiches available at the end of the race - a good way to combat a (unavoidable) finish. The ice rags at the finish line were also a nice touch. The timing company (itsracetime.com) was INCREDIBLE! They had a cool blackberry thing to start everyone's time in the pool. No hang-ups there. The mats were great and the finish-line coordinator was EXCELLENT about posting updated times on his trailer. He must have re-printed those sheets about 10 times as more people kept finishing. Then he printed and posted final results (organized by AG) as they were announced. Finally, the results were posted online before I even got home! GREAT JOB!! The awards were a unique situation to me, but I will mention it anyway. First of all I am not racing to amass a lot of trophies. Just want to make that point. So, awards started, they announced/awarded the #1 overall woman first. Good job! I knew in advance this was not me. Then they moved on to AG awards. I thought I had won my AG so I kind of moved up to the front of the crowd to minimize walking time. But my name was not called at all so I was a little confused (as were my friends who came to watch). A quick check of the results sheets (so promptly posted) showed that I had finished second overall woman, so was pulled out of AG rankings. Pulling out overall women has allowed me to "podium" in AG before so I think it's a fine practice, I would just like to be recognized as an overall placement if that's the case. I hope this doesn't sound snotty - I just stayed a couple hours extra because I knew I had done well but then had nothing really to show for it besides more stretching time. Oh well. I will just have to win the whole thing next year!! :) Last updated: 2008-12-31 12:00 AM

Ate some oatmeal and drove over to the race location.
Swam about 100m before the pre-race meeting. After the first swimmers started, I just sat on the grassy knoll by the pool chatting with my friend. She is thinking about doing triathlon as well so I was trying to talk her into it. Then before my number was called to start I just hopped in the pool to get wet.
