Swim
Comments: Just like Crystal Lake last weekend, I got off course, going too far left? This has never been an issue for me, but now this was back to back weekends? My goggles were pretty fogged up too, so that might have something to do with it?? And also, I mentioned above how I had the booties on, since I am a gynormous wuss when it comes to cold water, ya, well, being that I have size 7 petite baby feet, these booties felt like they were slipping off, so I ended up ripping them off and letting them go in the middle of the swim...I'm sure that cost me a couple seconds and it also meant I was out $31 but I didn't care... As soon as you rounded the yellow buoy, you were able to stand, so I stood, up as I tried to swim, but my God is it shallow. So, I ripped off the top 1/2 of the wetsuit, and goggles, and swim caps, and did the moving of my ponytail for the helmet, and I was off to sprint up the beach to the transition area. TIME OFF FROM LAST YEAR: 2:10 What would you do differently?: Not get off course! Continue swimming freestyle, and not resort to breast stroke when I get "anxious." Just rellllllaaaaaxxxx! Transition 1
Comments: Nothing really.... TIME OFF FROM LAST YEAR: 1:02 What would you do differently?: Nada! Bike
Comments: Not sure if it was because there was more wind on the bike compared to last year, or the fact that I wasn't 100% comfortable in my aero bars due to the bad wipeout last week, but I added time here, which is REALLY unusual for me, being that this is usually my best leg of the race. Gave the crowd a view of my backside, being that I was only in a suit and tiny skirt since Jen and I had planned to wear the same outfit (let me clarify, we each had the same suit, but shared the skirt. Sharing a suit, ya, that's gross/weird, even if it is my sister) as I headed up the hill out of transtion...so that was interesting! TIME OFF FROM LAST YEAR: +1:09 What would you do differently?: Not wipeout the weekend before, giving myself a masivly bruised right elbo, so I am able to go full speed ahead in my aero bars. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing really.... TIME OFF FROM LAST YEAR: 1:17 What would you do differently?: Nada Run
Comments: Ok, so that stomach upset I referenced earlier, ya, it came back on the run. My usualy stomach muscular issue seemed ok though, which made me happy, but it's like, I felt as though I just wasn't feeling like my usual self??? Saw Mark K on the run...didn't see PJ, that woman is just so damn quick! Handled the hills ok...but boy were my mile splits erratic...think that shows that I wasn't feeling all that great coming off the bike, then felt ok, but ya, strange day all around. The BEST part of the run, was when I had just run downhill and I saw all the BT'ers going to cheer for Clint's dad, and they were all yelling for me...they cracked me up! So funny you guys! Mile 1: 10:08 Mile 2: 8:38 Mile 3 to end: 9:13 TIME OFF FROM LAST YEAR: 2:24 (these are estimates....watch is at home, but I think they're close). What would you do differently?: Nothing....not feel like shiznit?? Post race
Warm down: Hung out with all the fellow BT'ers...PJ Grande, DJ Davey, Raytown Pete, Clint's Dad, DJ Davey's friend....I know I'm forgetting someone??? Didn't eat much, think I had 2 oranges and 1/2 of DJ Davey's PB&J sandwich...that's about all I could stomach... What limited your ability to perform faster: Tummy distress. Event comments: Total time off from Last Year: 3:50 LOVE coming up to Racine to spend time with the BT'ers...you guys are GREAT!!! (I'm saying that in my Tony the Tiger voice). Turned out to be a very nice day...and I took some time off...just missed getting a plaque, but hey, that's ok...tried my best, and to me, that's my plaque. ***UPDATE*** It pays to be nosey....I decided to look up the pictures of the girls who finished ahead of me, and I discovered the "person" who finished 3rd, was a MAN BABY!!! So, that means, I actually was third place, just like I told PJ I thought I was!! So, I have included the picture, of my plaque, which arrived on July 29th, MY BIRTHDAY!! Something was "off" this morning...I mean, I know I normally get nervous before races, but today, my stomach was not feeling all that great, so all I had to eat before the race was a bite of a banana (felt like I would throw it back up if I finished it), and a heaping tablespoon of Peanut Butter...all washed down with orange G2.
Set up my transition spot, and decided on the pink speedo goggles since it was pretty sunny.
Got in the water and swam around to get used to cold azz water temp of 59 degrees. Didn't feel too bad...but I was glad I had the booties....well that is, for the time being.
