Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Quick swim in res (<150 yards).
Swim
  • 14m 5s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Sighting was terrible, at one point, I was waved back on course by one of the boats between the thrid and fourth bouys. Very disappointing swim.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to sight
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Need to invest in a tri suit and race number belt. Took too much time putting on bike shorts, and bike shirt with race number attached.
Bike
  • 52m 52s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 19.52 mile/hr
Comments:

With the exception of shifting, the ride felt really good. I think I could have pushed a little harder. It was my first race with my new bike (Cervelo P1), so I was hoping to go little faster, but I'lll take it for now.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Train harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Need speed laces too. Took too much time tying laces.
Run
  • 25m 47s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. PR for a 5k in the course of a triathlon. Definitely felt as though I could have pushed harder. If asked what I thought my pace was at the end, I would have said just under 9 min/mile. Surprised actually.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little more.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did the race blind. Not sure if this would have helped or hurt. I would have liked to know my pace on the bike and maybe on the run. On the flip side, I might have spent too much time focusing on pace and forgotten to enjoy myself.

Event comments:

I can see why those who have done this sport for so long say that it takes a long time to become proficient. Year two, and I'm still learning, even in a sprint, of how hard to push myself so I still have something left at the end. I felt balanced during the race, but wish I had pushed harder in the bike and maybe in the run, but I don't know my abilities (or lack thereof) enough to know what effect it would have had on the rest of the race.
