Swim
Comments: The swim is always the hardest part for me no matter the distance. This was my first open water swim since swimming with Crazy Pop at the Cadboro Bay Triin 2005. The swim stared with my tummy giving me grief and I had to pee. So off I went and my sighting was horrible - I think I've mastered the zig zag technique. My breathing was really good and I kept remembering to go slow. I swam with 2 other girls pretty much the whole way but I couldn't keep up to them in the end and was convinced after they past me that I was the last green cap as blue caps were passing me. Out of the water, Hubby yelled out "Way to Go" and I knew I made the swim cut off time because he wasn't swimming yet. After the race, Jay told me I wasn't the last green cap out of the water but I didn't believe him until the results were out. Strangely enough, the swim was my strongest out of the three - so odd! What would you do differently?: Train more than 3 times in the pool. Train in open water. Transition 1
Comments: I couldn't find my race belt and #. Wasn't sure where my extra gels were? I knew my bottle of gel was on the bike. Not sure what took me so long...perhaps daydreaming? What would you do differently?: Be more organized...I didn't like the transition bag idea ... its so much easier when it can be left on your bike...not sure how I would do this differently - I'll have to ask others for suggestions. In the end, my race belt was in the bag...not sure how I missed it? Bike
Comments: Loved the bike course! I had so much fun. This was the longest ride I have ever done in one day - so I was so proud for just accomplishing that! I felt great and really enjoyed the course - it was just the right amount of challenge. I dropped my chain on one of the hills so I walked my bike up a hill and fixed it at the top - not sure why I did that, as it would have been faster just to fix it and get back on? Anyway, that didn't bug me one bit and a few km's later I saw a girl fall off her bike as she dropped her chain - she was fine and laughing about it. I was disappointed in my time as usually the bike is my strongest leg. What would you do differently?: Do more than 4 training rides. Ride more than 50k...perhaps ride the distance - lol. Transition 2
Comments: Couldn't find my race belt but as we know now; it was in my T1 bag. Tried to take off my bike shirt but it was difficult so I gave up. I had an awesome volunteer who really helped me. What would you do differently?: Take the time to take my bike shirt off. Run
Comments: I did not want to run...not sure why??? I think I did drink too much but mentally I just did not want to run. I had no pain in my legs or back and when I ran I wasn't overly out of breath but I just didn't want to run. I wanted my hubby to catch up with me but near the end - I knew I was on my own. People tried to motivate me "Everyone is suffering..just think of all the training you put it in." Since I put no training in...that didn't help. Also, the ringing of cowbells - does not motivate me! At final 1k mark a lady passed me and I realised that she was in my age group. Well, I was not going to be last so I ran the last k just to beat her...I guess there is some competitive spirit deep down. What would you do differently?: There is a theme to this story - train. Go out for more than one 10K run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around; waited for Hubby. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not training and lack of motivation. I knew I was not near the cut-off time so I still had lots of time to finish. Also, in my head, I thought I was already last in my age group so I didn't need to push it. Event comments: What can I say - I didn't train but I'm so proud of myself and now I have the bug again....I want to train and race! I love my bike!!! I love my hubby and my son! I hope to race with Crazy Pop at least once a year. I love the belt buckle finsihers medal but the cotton t-shirt design sucks. No swag in the race kit :( BTW, the trg in my log is what I was planning to do but never did - lol! Last updated: 2009-01-03 12:00 AM

Rolled out of bed at 0400 - for an instant I hated my husband for getting me into this but got over that quickly. Washed up, got dressed, prepared breakfast, grabbed our transition bags and then off to the car hubby and I went. Drove to North Glenmore park and then realised we should have been at the Casino so drove back to the Casino. Drank a cold coffee in the car. Got body marked, dropped off our transition bag, and boarded the second bus. I tried to eat my bagel with PB but it was just getting stuck in my throat and it felt like I was eating rocks - needless to say I only ate 1/4 of it. Had a gel and some Gatoraide 15 min prior to swim.
Running to the bathroom - thank God for immodium (thank you beginner tri member that suggested to always bring some to races - I wish I could remember who you are now).
So glad to see Crazy Pop! It always makes you feel better when you see an old friend. Hubby thanks for the support and believing in me even when I don't.
