Pre-race routine:

Arrived early, dropped off bike and gear. Body mark and chip pick up. set up tranistion area and waited and waited
Event warmup:

swam a little but not much since my goggles fog up easily. stretched really well
Swim
  • 18m 56s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt horrible from the start. I was in the front but there was no need to start too fast. Just didnt get into my rhythm very well. Had to breast stroke a lot. Was very mental about the swim- on a good note- when I was swimming well I sighted well and kept on course.
What would you do differently?:

Practice open water swimming!! Need to get more distance swimming in
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition was OK. Do not know the time- it built into the bike time according to the website. Socks were hard to get on, lots of grass on my feet and they were wet. Long run to the transition area- 300 yards is what I heard it was.
Bike
  • 54m 29s
  • 14 miles
  • 15.42 mile/hr
Comments:

worked hard on the bike, definately winded, passed by some and I passed some others. Felt hard but good
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

transition went well. Forgot my visor but no big deal.
Run
  • 28m 9s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot out by this time. I was really tired after the bike and racing yesterday. I didnt get the normal "legs feel like tree trunks" feeling, just didnt have the energy to go. Was very warm even in the shade.
What would you do differently?:

not race the day before- duh
maybe some supplement- gu or shot blocks
I know I can run faster- might have taken #1 if I did.
Post race
Warm down:

got water!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mental aspect of the swim
headwind on bike
HOT and tired on run

Event comments:

Great race especially for the first open water swim. My problem was me, not the course. You can see the bottom the whole time. I recommend this race to anyone- great venue, great people!
