Pre-race routine:

Arrived early at parking around 6:15 for 8:00 start. Ate banana and Cliff Bar around 6:00. Rode into park to set up and get oriented. Could have parked inside park for $3.00. Set up transition area, got chip, numbers, walked start/finish areas. Now its 6:45 and found a quiet spot to lay back, stretch, relax. Still had some quad soreness from spin/body pump class 3 days ago. Around 7:10 returned to t area and took 2 enduralytes and 2 Advils and Hornet juice.
Event warmup:

Donned wetsuit at 7:35 and headed down to swim area for a short warm up swim. Felt good and

Comments:

I hate breathing jet ski and boat exhaust fumes when swimming!
What would you do differently?:

Relax pace of stroke and stay in form.

Comments:

Got suit down to waist while running. Sat down to get off feet. Wiped grass dirt from feed an slipped on bike shoes easily. Glasses helmet and ran out of area pretty fast considering traffic. Clicked in left first, mounted to roll and clicked in right.
What would you do differently?:

Little.

Comments:

Good ride for me. Tried to not overdo it. Took one Gu pack on ride but mouth felt like Glue after. Drank 1/2 bottle of water. Felt unsettled to see a Fire truck and ambulance at last turn of ride attending to fallen rider who must have been going too fast. Made me more cautious coming into ride finish. Dismounted early enough on downhill slope and slipped a little on painted surface. Ran into t area pretty well.

Comments:

Felt pretty good at first compared to last race but the uphill start got to me. Had to wait 30 seconds at main road for ambulance to get out of traffic with fallen rider. Didn't have much spring in legs after that and started feeling hot. Kept jogging to park entrance then picked it up for last 1/2 mile downhill in shade. That was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Lose 10 more pounds and work on speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around, found shade, and drank 2 water bottles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of open water swim experience. Need better fitness and running speed.

Event comments:

A good well run event in a beautiful setting.

Performance: Average
Course measured at 750 yards. 3rd wave started at 8:06. Tried to relas and stay outside masses but lots of body contact causing me to stop, look up, avoid contact and restart. First leg was against current. Fast breathing for first 150 yds then fell into a good rhythm. Wetsuit definetly helped. Stayed relatively straight to each buoy. Did better with outside reach and bi-lateral for about 50% of race.
