Run
Comments: Felt really good at the start. Had to back myself off because I went out at an 8:45pace, way too fast for this distance for me. Held back to a 9:10 and settled into a good rhythm. At mile 7, I could feel my aches and pains. I thought about my choices. I could quit and DNF or I could run through it. In the back of my mind, I kept hearing the ortho tell me that I wasn't doing any further damage to myself. And I knew if I slowed down, then only thing I was prolonging was the pounding on my ankle and hip. Coming into the finishing stretch, I truly believed I had the sub 2 hour race. I felt good and really thought I was going to do it. I looked at the big clock and saw 1:58. I was like Yes!! But then I looked again and saw that it said 1:59, not 1:58. Uh oh. I tried to pick up the pace, but I saw the clock flip to 2 hours. I'm still really happy with this run because it is a PR for me. And I was so close to my goal of sub 2. If I can just get healthy and stay healthy to train properly, I know I've got it. What would you do differently?: I made myself run conservatively. I took 1 minute walk breaks every 30 minutes to take my gel. I really tried to listen to my body. The only thing I could have done differently was not get injured at CHristmas time. I really felt like I ran a good race. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, walking and more stretching. We also waded in the ocean for 10 minutes as a substitute ice bath. What limited your ability to perform faster: Healing an inflamed ankle and hip. Event comments: It was beautiful at the beach. Sunny, warm but not hot, and a little breeze to keep you cool. I felt good. I ran to the best of my ability and without my iPod:) I am really stoked that I almost got my goal even with an injury. I just need to get healthy so I can really give it my all in my races.
