Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 a.m. took a shower to wake up, was trying to decide what to wear for the race. I had originally planned to run in shorts and bag check pants and a sweat shirt. I saw that there was frost on my car so decided to switch to pants and a sweatshirt. Knowing that the race was at 7 and I'd be finished before it really warmed up. This ended up being fine. Got to the metro and headed down to DC easy.
Event warmup:

I saw that people were coming in and out of the Armory so decided to use the indoor bathroom. It was very much needed. They made an annoucement that the race was going to start in 15 mins. and the line got a lot shorter. I knew I wouldn't need to be there at the start since I start so far in the back. I took around 7-8 min.s for me to cross the start line.

Comments:

The first mile was tough, I had wanted to warm up but needed to use the bathroom more so it took the first mile to feel normal and warm up the legs. I almost decided to bag it during this mile because my shin and legs were killing me. Talked myself into just running my own race. Overall the course was nice although they didn't really have major hills it seemed rolling and felt like once I got into my groove there would be a hill and throw me off. I felt good most of the race, at around my 8ish my legs felt dead and decided to take a gel. Actually, I wanted to take a gel earlier but waited for a water stop. That got screwed up since after mile 4 til the end they ran out of cups! I was like WTF! How can you run out of cups. They asked us to drink out of the jugs after people! Which I ended up doing. I took another gel at mile 11. This was the first time using gel's in a race and I reallly think this helped me. I actually found some gel's that don't make me gag. My plan was to kick it in the last 3 miles and tried but there kept being an incline. The last half mile or so I was really going to push it but I look up and see the finish line has a hill at the end. I just couldn't do it. I am happy with my time I pr'd by almost 20 min.s so I am so happy.
What would you do differently?:

Try to push it a little harder than I did.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a drink and pretzel in the packed tent and wanted to just get out of there.

Event comments:

I will never do this race again. For them to run out of cups and water was just unacceptable to me. They knew how many people were racing and this should not have happened. They then asked us to drink after others which I had to do since I needed the water. I know I am not the fastest person and am used to the post race food being somewhat gone and such but for them to run out of cups during the race was horrible. I am so pissed about this and am just glad it didn't screw up my race. They also ran out of GU and if I was counting of them I would have been screwed. I am planning on sending the race org. a complaint letter and will try to get my money back.
