Age Group Rank = 3/67
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, had my normal pre-race breakfast of bread w/ peanut butter and honey and a carbo-pro/Met Endurance shake. Double checked to make sure I had everything and headed off to the race.
Event warmup:

5 Minute jog just to get my muscle awake and the stretched and headed over to the start line.
Swim
  • 15m 6s
  • 965 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got stuck near about half-way between the start buoys and got cut off at the start, after the left turn found some open water and then found a nice rhythm and had good rest of swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start on the outside near the buoy and get out a little quicker to find some clean water at the beginning.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

The run from the water exit to the transition is about 200m. Got out of water and got my wetsuit down to the waist. Got to the wetsuit strippers and before I hit the ground mine was off, headed to T1. Race Belt on, Glasses on, Helmet on, and off. I had forgot to clear my computer before the race so I had to clear it while running from the rack to the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

With the distance from the exit to the swim I need to run faster. Clear the bike computer before the race.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 42s
  • 28 miles
  • 22.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice overcast, fairly calm morning for the ride. After starting the bike, noticed my computer screen was blank after 100m. With no computer I rode the ride based on my HR and didn't really know how fast I was going. I felt like I was in a pretty good rhythm. Drank everything I had on the bike and had no issues. Only was passed by 5 people on the bike. All in All a pretty good ride.
What would you do differently?:

New battery in computer before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Decent transition, found my row easily got my back racked. Took a few extra seconds to get my right sock on, got my shoes on, hat on, and off to the run.
What would you do differently?:

Took a little long to get my socks on, need to work on that.
Run
  • 45m 58s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Into the run it took me about 400m to find a nice rhythm. Found a guy with a Garmin to run with for the first mile (Saw the pace was about 7:00/mile). Left him about the 1 mile mark and was on my own till the start of the second lap. Starting the second lap had a Texas State person come off the bike they had a good pace so I worked to keep up and hang with them. Stayed with them till about mile 5.5 and then took off towards the finish. Had too much energy left at the end, sprinted the last 400m. Had a couple people pass me on the run, passed a couple people, but felt good/slow for most of the run, didn't drink enough or take enough gel during the run.
What would you do differently?:

A little fast pace, do a better job with nutrition on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and cooled down a bit. Had my recovery drink and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike pace and nutrition on the run.

Event comments:

Good Race, would have liked to gone to some of the seminars but they were outside and didn't want to sit in the sun the day before the race.
