![]() Swim
Comments: When I saw my watch after the swim I couldn't believe. My best swim by far. After the race there was talk that the swim was short and it makes sense, but it was still a great swim for me since I was with the main pack. I got a couple feet to the head and mouth, but overall it went well. There wre a couple times when I should have passed some people for a smoother ride but I didn't. Too bad What would you do differently?: Be confident, pass some people and fight for the good feet. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The time also has the long run into transition. I stayed with the people around me and had a pretty good T1. I've found that I can't just yank my feet out of the suit, and it's actually much faster for me to get the suit to my ankles and take it off my hand, instead of jerking me body. 5th fastest T1 in AG What would you do differently?: Not much, though I should have fixed my bike! ![]() Bike
Comments: I jumped on my bike and noticed it wasn't going. Damn, I look down and my back wheel has been misalogned and so it's rubbing against the side. I do a quick fix and get up to speed. The problem is it's still rubbing. After 3 or 4 miles, at the 1st turn around I fix it well. Probably 1-1.5 min of fixing! The bike went well besides that mechanical. I found a good pace -- passed more people than passed me and put in a solid effort. The wind picked up on the second loop and I did as much as possible to stay small, and feet a solid cadence. I was only 40sec from having the 3rd fastest time in my AG. What would you do differently?: Double check bike. Buy set screws so this never happens again! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: A girl passed me heading towards T2, but I had a better dismount, etc, so I passed her over the sensor into T2! Overall, tied for first fastest in AG, not too shaby! Though, I always need to double check run out, because I got a little confused. What would you do differently?: Know where I'm going ![]() Run
Comments: 2nd fastest in AG! Alright. People said the run course was long, but I don't think so... I was feeling OK until the sand, and that just killed my pace. Really made me feel the soreness in my right arch, and after that it was everything I could do to keep up any sort of pace. The 3 miles in had a pretty tough head wind, but I guess everyone had to deal with that. What would you do differently?: Just try to keep feet and legs healthy ![]() Post race
Warm down: Got some bagel and banana, walked around with GF and some friend who came to watch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike mechanical!! I was 30secs off 6th place, so who knows what could have happened without that? Event comments: This was a lot of fun. The bike course is the best i've been on. It will spoil me for the next couple races! There is a very good vibe, it was run in a professional manner, and it was just plain fun. It is definitely an early season oly/half I would recommend to anyone. Last updated: 2009-01-08 12:00 AM

I got up around 5:30, had a quick cup of press pot coffee, some oatmeal, a quick bathroom break and then I was off. We got to the race early, so I had plenty of time to set my stuff up and wait.
I didn't really get a good workout in, but there was plenty of walking between the car and transition, so I'm sure that helped loosen some things up. I swam 100-200m before our wave went off.
