Swim
Comments: Swim felt great. First lap I was swimming with someone drafting off ther wave. Picked it up a little towards the end of the 1st lap. Felt strong on the 2nd lap but kept saying to myself to stay steady and not to race. I needed to stay in control and smooth. What would you do differently?: I would start closer towards the bouy and jump on the feet of some faster swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: I used the great volunteers to my advantage just as I was taught at the training camp. Everything seemed to go smoothhly in and out. Did not like running in bike shoes but had no choice. What would you do differently?: I would like to have better shoes for biking so I would not have to wear socks. I think putting on socks wet did not work for me. Bike
Comments: I was feeling ok on the ride, my back was tightening up a little and I had some discomfort in the groin area but nothing to bad. I recieved a 4 minute penalty for drafting and was suprised that I was the only one from that roup that was penalized. 2nd loop I was pushing up Mama bear and had my head down. I looked up last second to see a women standing in the road on her bike. I crashed into her going ove my handlebars and landing hard on my back. She was disoriented and complaining of cramping up so I trie to give her water and then waited around for help to arrive. overall I think I waited for 4-5 minutes and finally left when she was being taken care of by the staff of volunteers. What would you do differently?: Not crash and pay attention to details. Transition 2
Comments: once again the volunteers were great and I had a smooth transittion. What would you do differently?: Not sure yet. Run
Comments: The run was difficult. After the crash I felt like I had a cramp in my back and just could not et rid of it. I felt ok on the first lap, I could have had better nutrition I think. The second lap I started to feel it and that is when the fun began. It was challenging and I felt my pace get slower. I wish the run could have been faster.! What would you do differently?: I think instead of running with a fuel belt I would run with a water bottle and then just rely on the aid stations. Post race
Warm down: walked around/ got a massage What limited your ability to perform faster: I think the crash on the bike impacted my run. I felt cramped on the side that I landed on. Event comments: This was a great 1st ironman. The experience was incredible, along with the volunteers. The entire atmosphere during the whole week was awsome. Everyone was nice and friendy, it is an experience that words can not explain. Meeting all of these triathletes and friends of friends was on of the best parts. I truely appreciated the experience and support from my family and friends. Last updated: 2009-01-09 12:00 AM
