Swim
Comments: i tried to cut a straight line to the furthest buoy you could see from the start and then follow the rope the rest of the way out and back. they didn't give any warning on the start, so when they sounded the horn i was still cleaning my goggles. tried to put them on real quick, but by then i was getting pummeled. put them on real quick, but they filled with water. had to stop about 45sec in to empty them and re-adjust. What would you do differently?: swim more. i cut off about 3.5 min from my 2007 time, but i was still disappointed. i was really hoping to break 30 min. i HAVE to bring this down if i am gong to be competitive. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: wasn't my best t1. didn't feel smooth. i thought the girl next to me hogged the space and her shit was all in front of mine. i had to reach over her junk to get to my bag to pack up my t1 stuff like they ask you to. am i the only person who does this? i also need to work on potentially jumping on the bike and having shoes already clipped in. as it is now, i stop, get on my bike, clip in and go. Bike
What would you do differently?: this was about the best bike i could have hoped for with my training base. i had gotten a new bike on wed. that definitely helped. it felt good. the aerobars are too long, but my fitting this week should help with that. i need to get my mileage up and take this time down by at least 4 minutes. i think that is doable. butt in the seat. that is what i need to do. more cycling. no secret. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: i had a difficult time getting my nutrition in my pockets. i need to just remind myself of where my pockets are pre-race. Run
What would you do differently?: train more. i really am shocked that this was as fast as it was. i had not run more than 5 miles since june. i had not bricked since june. i have had 2 hip surgeries since june. i felt slow, and i was cramping. i really cannot believe i was sub 8. it gives me alot of hope for what i can get this down to. Post race
Warm down: nothing, and i am currently paying for it. What limited your ability to perform faster: training, surgery, time off. Event comments: over all a great race. i have already emailed them my suggestions for improvements. 1.) swag needs to be re-sized. i am so tired of getting cool stuff and having a small not be a small. 2.) get the results up the same day 3.)don't do the swim waves according to some secret formula 4.) ages on the calves other than those things, it was a great race. so nice having such a great course and great attendance in our own backyard. woke up at 4:00am, about 1:15 before we had to leave. had a full glass of water and a latte. ate a bagel with logs of butter. some as in eman, giving myself an hour to get ready gave my guts plenty of time. we also mixed the perpetuem in the small food processor. this worked nicely. we need to travel with this. the mix was 1 packet of perpetuem to 1/4 water.
got to start/t2 at 5:25am. saw a bunch of people i knew. socialized, picked up my chip, set up t2 and headed on bike to t1. in the future, bring a head lamp. this was a dark, dangerous ride. had plenty of time at t1. i was in the 3rd wave.
