Age Group Rank = 7/9
Pre-race routine:

Little bit of coffee, a MoJo bar, and some water while Hubby drove us to Vicksburg.
Event warmup:

15 minute jog, including up the first hill just so my legs wouldn't be quite as surprised. Chilly, damp, breezy day down by the big river.

Comments:

My watch not only had me 10 seconds faster than the results (I recorded my watch time here because I started it at the gun and stopped it after the finish line, which also said 57:40-something, so not sure where the extra 10 seconds come from), but my pod also recorded the course as being a little more than .1 longer (but I stuck with the 10k distance since I am more willing to believe my pod is off even though I would like the 9 min/mile it would have given me). I am still learning to run fast again. I met my goals for this race (9:30 or better pace and under 1 hour), but I felt so slow as the majority of the runners blew by me after the first hill.
What would you do differently?:

I ran well. I kept an eye on my pace because I didn't want to let myself slow down. Maybe I didn't let myself be as aggressive as I could be, but since hills are not as much a part of my running regimen, it's hard to gauge how best to attack a course like that.
Post race
Warm down:

Another 10 minutes of easy jogging.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A year of long slow distance.

Event comments:

Mississippi Track Club consistently puts on good events. And the YMCA had great door prizes (not that I won any).

Performance: Good
Course: A journey through Vicksburg...the best and some of the not-so-scenic. The race started from the Horizon's Casino, ran along the river for about 1/2 mile before hitting the first hill. This was the worst. Long and extremely steep. The rest of the course was hilly, but not nearly as bad and the last mile was back downhill to the water. We ran through some very charming parts of the city, and several people were out to cheer us on.
